preface: last year at the east coast a cappella summit i discovered a german a cappella group called vocaldente, and they are tremendous. seriously, if they actually played in the usa, i just might have to follow them around. part of their charm is that they are quirky and offbeat, while at the same time being fantastic artists and singers. they put on a show, and it is polished, professional, and FUN!
so, anyway, on a whim i came home from work a few minutes ago (night shift) and decided to look and see if they have any upcoming tour dates in the usa (of course not). and...up pops a new face in their band photo!!!!
this is the part that is a first. he is cute. he is young. very pretty, smiley, and just adorable. saw a video of him sing and he is talented. yet...i do not approve!!!! as i said above, the band is quirky, not only in performance but in looks, and they take full advantage of that. two guys in the group could be (and, based on past photos, have once been) very attractive, but they definitely steer more towards "endearingly odd" nowadays. my least favorite member of the group is kinda pretty, but he fits in better than new guy because at least he is a brunette, as is everyone else. except new guy. who is blond. and looks like a cherub. i would love him in any other group. here, he distracts from part of vocaldente's charm.
and i loved the tenor who new guy replaced. i'm going to miss him. i went on a mad hunt to try and figure out why he left (yes they had a post on their website, but did i mention it's a german group? website is in german! and apparently the little british flag at the top of the webpage DOESN'T translate things into english when you click on it, even though it (pointlessly) refreshes the page). hurray babbel fish! plopped in text, got my answer.
apparently he wants to go pursue his musical passion for guitar. although the translation actually came out like this (talking about new guy replacing niklas after summer):
"After the summer break it replaces Niklas, which itself in the future again excluding
its actual musical passion, to which guitar play would like to dedicate."
i can weed through bad english a tad more easily than i can german! :)
