I am in Stansted Airport. It is quite awful. I have been here for over four hours. Our plane has been put back three times and is currently over three hours late. The Wetherspoons has stopped serving but I can still hear the Glaswegians inside singing God Save The Queen. All the shops shut ages ago and I was sick of listening to my iPod so I've been reading my library book about Jack the Stripper, but I just want to be away from here very badly.
Was reading about this golliwog furore yesterday, and the Times linked to an online test about racism from Harvard University. You had to keep your left hand on the E key and the right hand on the I key. The first time, if a black face or a positive word (eg joy, friendly, happiness) flashed up you needed to press one key, if a white face or a negative word (evil, failure, threatening) flashed up you needed to type on the other side. The second time, it was reversed so black faces were to go with negative words and vice versa. It's extraordinary, but you complete the test twice as quickly the second time and make a lot less mistakes. My results told me that I was extremely racist. I don't have the link on me right now but it was thought-provoking.
