Privilege

I'm white, and therefore don't really have to worry about anything that has to do with race. I often don't even notice race and assume everyone can do what I can do because I don't even see it.

I'm middle class, which means I have access to more privileges like,
college
medical care
financial security (from parents)
better public schools (since my mom bought a house in a better school district for me, no joke)
and a whole bunch of other crap I can't think of right now

I was never seperated from my parents, and never adopted.

People know that I have a long-term bf and therefore assume I'm straight.

I have mulitiple jobs (2 at Albion and one at home) for frivilous expenses for things like; fast food when my board is paid for, "entertainment" like movies etc.

I'm not transgender/transsexual and therefore have never had to deal with how my gender identity fits into society. I've also never had to worry about being "found out" about my gender/sex, never had to tell my parents who I really was, or go through the process to obtain hormones or go through surgery.

I have access to free therapy due to my albion college student status, which means that I don't have to worry about insurance for therapy, or my access to therapy.

I never have to worry about where my next meal is coming from. Or where I'm going to sleep.

I've never had to personally apply through the welfare system and be repeatedly denied. I've never personally filed for bankruptcy.

For the most part I'm physically healthy. I don't need to take medications that my life depend on. I don't need to worry about paying for perscriptions. My life and daily activities are not inhibited by any illnesses. I don't have to worry about anyone thinking I'm "deformed" or "disabled".

I'm of average intelligence, or somewhat above average. I'm not mentally retarded and therefore grasping tools necessary to survive in American society are easier for me to grasp than someone who is mentally retarded.

I was born and raised "American" so I never had to worry about learning a second language, or deal with culture shock of that kind. I never had to go through the immigration process, my citizenship and American-ness is never questioned because of my ethnicity/religion/accent.

I can't think of anything else right now. I probably will later.

list, privilege
