Let me explain the past week... Band. Lots, and lots, of band. We've been working on our fourth song, "Return to Flight," which involves the "battery elite" to march in the field. Well, I've been in my fair share of parades, NYC and such, and but I have never marched on a field, or played a marching bass drum before this year. So we practiced... Dear God we practiced. It was a constant thing, constant crazy-ness. So today I showed up a the school at about noon, where we two runthroughs of our entire show, four songs (pit for the first three and battery on the last, for me). We then packed all of our crap into our trucks, suited up, piled into our busses like the sardinian musicians we were, and left for Timber Creek High. What a long ride, but it could have been worse. I could have been sitting next to Mr. Brooker the whole way there like Brenton (that Goddam ladies' man) or been sitting on top of the wheelwell like Jac(ob). Oh well. I switched with Jac on the way back anyway, and we got Brenton away from the Brooker-daemon. We got there and started to unload all of our stuff. Damn it was hot out. Once everything was prepared, and we were ready for a terrific performance... it rained. We headed into the school, where the rain WASN'T, but all I could think about was, "My baby's getting rained on." My Bass Drum does sound like shit, but it's like a redneck son, It's not much but I love it anyway. After hearing rumor after rumor that the show was rained out, we found that it was just an hour-long delay... without marching. It became a "stand still show," aka- A WASTE OF TIME! We stood in front of a crowd and played. How stupid. After our little diddy, we sat in the bleachers and watched the other bands. I sat with four of my friends, two guys and two girls. About a third of the way through I realised that I had become a sort of "fifth wheel." It didn't really phase me, but it just seemed a little weird. It turns out that of the 14 bands that showed at the festival, only eight of them were better than us... Woo... hoo? How are you supposed to respond to the fact that you kinda suck? Oh well, we get to get beetter for State. That will be fun. I'm home, now, I'm tired, and I want rest. So, g'night
