Just to let everyone know, things are doing not so bad with my family right now. I shouldn't speak so quickly, though, because my dad is still waiting on his second biopsy results. The waiting is the hardest part, of course, but I'm fairly hopeful. If it is lymphoma, I understand that it's highly treatable, and my dad, though getting up there, is in general good health anyway.
Of course, on Saturday morning, Dad and I drove down to Greensboro. It was a fairly nice drive, and we got to talk on the way down. There was good news when we got to the hospital--they figured out, they think, what was causing my sister's shoulder pain. Psuedo-gout, which is not terribly common, but does occur in kidney patients especially, seems to be the culprit. Unlike regular gout, this is due to high phosphorus in the body which leaves crystals in the joints causing terrible pain. They've started her on a course of steroids to treat it, and it looks like she'll be released from the hospital by Wednesday. It was starting to look like she might have to drop out of school again, but if she gets out so soon and is able to stay healthy the rest of the semester, she'll be good to go.
It was good to see my sister and Mom, of course. We spent most of the time in the hospital room, or going to get food to and from. Funny story about the food---Saturday night, I was sent to get take out from Macaroni Grill. As I was pulling into their parking lot, I dropped a bomb inside the car----and promptly pulled into the "curb side to go" parking space. The cute waitress comes bouncing out, I roll down the window, and she takes several steps back as quick as she can, haha. Anyway, i get the food, and drive back to the hospital. As the food sits in my car, a half-open container of pasta is spilling into the bag and soaking the bottom through. When I get to the hospital, I lift the bag out of the car only to have the bottom break and pasta fly everywhere---my pants, my car seat and floor, the ground, everywhere. Luckily, only the one pasta dish broke open, so I rescued the other dishes. I was pretty pissed off, of course, but after I called the place, they promised to not charge me for the meal, and told me to get my car cleaned and mail them the bill. I need to find a place that will shampoo both my floors and my seats, but they were very nice to take care of everything like that, and I can highly recommend Macaroni Grill if you want to spill Bolognese sauce in your car.
All in all, a very nice visit. And my dad and I found this amazing cheesecake place a few blocks from the hospital---the Key Lime Cheesecake was amazing, and I'll have to bring some up sometime.
Okay, I'm still exhausted, so I'll wait until next time to explain my theory on teaching Paris Hiltons.
