one of my "parents" has published a book!

Dear friends, associates, and colleagues far and wide!

It’s FINALLY here!

After 5 long years, my book - The Mom’s Guide to Asperger Syndrome - is finally back from the printer. Over the next several weeks it will be available online at Amazon and Barnes and Noble, as well as at brick-&-mortar stores across the country, but right now, it’s available directly from the publisher at http://www.asperger.net/bookstore_9985.htm. You can also access this link from my website, www.evolibri.com.

As this is a small publisher, most of the promotion and publicity is done by the authors. To that end, if you could stop and think about anyone you know who might benefit from this book - educators, school administrators, special education advocates and educational advocates, as well as parents of children with Asperger Syndrome, HFA, or NLD - and please forward this email to them, I’d be indebted!

The book is over 300 pages long, and crammed with everything I have learned over the last 10 years parenting an Asperger child. It includes tips and tricks, as well as easy-to-understand explanations of the psychological theory, specialists, tools, and interventions used for these special kids. It is the book I wished I had 10 years ago when we started this journey with Will.

Here is what folks are saying about my book (which makes me blush!):

“This wonderful book provides information in a uniquely practical way to parents of children with Asperger Syndrome. It should be entitled ‘Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Being the Parent of a Child with Asperger Syndrome ... But Didn’t Know Whom to Ask.’”

- Rebekah Heinrichs, author of Perfect Targets: Asperger Syndrome and Bullying

“The Mom’s Guide to Asperger Syndrome and Related Disorders is a terrific addition to the literature! It is easy to read and understand and is jam-packed with tons of useful information for families. I particularly like the suggestions regarding discussing the challenges of AS in ways that are appropriate to the child’s age and issues. The sections on IDEA, navigating the special education system, and picking and choosing your issues are also well done. This is a book you need to add to your library of resources.”

-                     Diane Adreon, associate director, University of Miami/Nova Southeastern University Center for Autism & Related Disabilities

“Thoughtful, easy to read and easy to understand. The Mom’s Guide to Asperger Syndrome is both comprehensive and practical, and while I wish a resource such as this had been available when my son was diagnosed, it is still one I will refer to over and over in the years to come. This is a great, must-read handbook for anyone loving and working with ASD children, not just moms.”

-  Wallis A. Simpson, author of My Andrew: Day-to-Day Living with a Child with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and mother of one son on the spectrum

“The parents I see in my practice have been begging for something like this for years - a well-written, easy-to-read map for them, in their language.  Jan’s honesty will help parents realize that they, and their children, are not alone.  The guide offers a proactive and positive approach to building a relationship with your own child, teachers, administrators, friends, relatives and other children.”

-                     Elizabeth Dumanian, LCSW, psychotherapist in private practice, specializing in working with parents of children with special needs and chronic illnesses, and board member, The Children’s Health Council, a multi-disciplinary diagnostic and treatment center

In closing, thank you for all of your help along this journey - I could not have done this without the community I am lucky enough to call mine!

Best to you all,

Jan
