Ikebana 2

This is certainly a very strange place. Even though I've only been here for a little over a week, I've apparently been working at the hospital as a nurse for quite some time. At least, that's what the... 'drones', I believe?... want me to think. I don't mind that, of course; healing comes naturally to me, even without my powers. I suppose being ( Read more... )

Hello, Grady-san. I'm Retsu Unohana. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to speak with me.

I've been told that it is impossible to leave Mayfield. Why is this?

Why, because Mayfield is the greatest town on Earth and nobody wants to leave, of course! Should business take ye outside our boundaries, however, ye're free to come and go as you please!

This is a free country, after all.

Oh, of course. In that case, I wonder if you could explain to me why the town loops in on itself? Trying to leave isn't as simple as you claim, Grady-san.

Loops in on itself? Why, m'dear lady, I have no absolutely no idea what you mean.

Interesting. Have you been programmed not to see it, or are you just lying to keep up the charade?

Do I really strike ye as the lying type?

Now that we have had this conversation, I must say that yes, you do.

I'm not a fool. I doubt you are, either. What must I do to get the answers I seek?

That hurts, Ms. Unohana.

I'm afraid ye'll never find answers to foolish questions like those here in Mayfield, m'dear. Yer far better off putting such fantasies to rest.

...It would seem so.

One more question, if I may. Why is it that when I requested to be a doctor instead of a nurse, I was treated with what was frankly some of the rudest behavior I've seen in quite some time? I've been a healer for more years than you've been alive, and I am insulted that I've been so limited in my 'job' here. I assure you I have the proper qualifications to be a doctor. If I must be trapped here, then at the very least I can assist the wounded and sick.

I happen to be quite an old fella, Ms. Unohana. Y'might be surprised how many years I've been alive! [chuckle]

Now now, doctorin's a man's job, I'm afraid. You should be focusing on taking care of your house and children, don't you think?

Mmm. I believe you are the one that would be surprised if you knew how old I really am, but that's not important.

...As I thought. Still, I had to ask. Thank you for your time, Grady-san. I believe I'll be seeking you out again in due time.
