Goddamnit. This screws up sci-fi authors so goddamned much.

Stupid astronomers. It'd be easier to drop Pluto/Charon instead of adding a whackload more crappilly named planets...

Well if it makes you feel better Ceres was considered a planet for over fifty years after it's dicovery. If it makes you feel better they are given a different planetary classification than the classical planets.

Free Press said they were naming it Xena, and because it has a moon, they'll name the moon Gabrielle.

Absolutely not, Xena is the nickname it's been given, because 2003-UB313 is a pain in the ass to slip into conversation. Serious consideration as to the name has yet to begin.
