I feel that Steve needs to woobie too; it's really only fair to horribly mutilate him in the cause of angst science angst.

Fair comment: I grew up in the Canadian coast guard, and briefly lived in a town that I basically fictionalised for Cedar Harbour. So the SAR details are more to keep myself going crazy (because no one in a small town like that would believe Steve's story, and that is how the coast guard would react [though I fudged a bit of the rescue co-ordination centre stuff]). I got to the point where I was making up full tide charts for my imaginary town, when one of my betas pointed out that no one else would either notice or care (consequently, one of the tide details is somewhat off).

I'm glad you feel that the reconciliation wasn't too rushed. Dorky's story is basically my last two scenes stretched out over eighty thousand words (plus awesome action), and does a rather better job of it. Some day, I will be able to take CW seriously enough to write a proper resolution for it.
