[Followed by the huffing laughter of what sounds suspiciously like a Charizard.]

a challenger approaches!, elite four member coming through, !event: theme music, my master doesn't know shit, lance takes things too seriously, what is this trickery?, explanation is needed, seriously loathes the animus

[At first, there's silence around Lance and his pokemon. Well, silence other than the echoes of Lance's battle music.

But there, softly, in the distance, comes the faint... strums... of something... almost sinister]

[Charizard doesn't see the furball coming, unfortunately, and his head snaps backward with a startled roar before he twists to glare down at the tiny Pokemon.]

[She's landing after kind of headbutting Charizard, taking a few steps before shaking herself off moodily. After all, she didn't really jump at him so much as she was thrown by her stupid, impulsive trainer.

But at Lance's cry, her eyes snap open before she gives a distressed little cry, ignoring whatever the hell Blue is saying to try and get away.

She does not want to get hit with that.]

[Blue, meanwhile has come out from behind the rock he's standing behind, grinning up a storm. This is what he lives for. The battle, the adrenaline rush, the annoyance of a sneak attack.]

Eevee, Flash. Get him blinded! Then take a moment for work up!

[.......... And nothing, the little furball is just trying to get away, much to Blue's annoyance.]

[And -- wait for it -- Lance laughs, and the competitive music slows as Lance stands next to Charizard, who stops abruptly at the slightest twitch of Lance's fingers. The dragon looks annoyed, huffing a bunch of smoke out of his nostrils, but he obeys.]

It appears she wasn't ready.

[Lance leans against Charizard.]
