6 A.M. Wake up because Chewie is acting like an asshole. For good reason too, I forgot to give him food last night. I go downstairs and remedy the problem. Go back to bed.
8 A.M. Wake up a second time and quickly become aware that Elliot is NOT in his room. This is a new thing he's doing- last Sunday at my parents, he walked out of the room he'd been sleeping in and hid downstairs. My mother and father were FREAKING out, looking for him. Today, it turns out he was in Henry's room. This is a big no-no, as I spent all Tuesday night priming the room to be painted and it's not suitable for two year-olds. Reprimands all around.
9 A.M. At Elliot's request, we went out to Panera for bagels. I've sort of had my fair share of bagels over the past two weeks, but going out in the mornings like that has sort of been a thing that Elliot and I do, so I relented. He had a half of a chocolate chip bagel; I had the other half. Orange juice and water. After that, we went to Target to buy Roxanne some dog treats. We've been out for the past two weeks and Roxanne's so disappointed when we don't have anything for her after she does something good.
10 A.M. Back home. Elliot's watching some episodes of Clifford the Big Red Dog while I tidy up a bit. I would like to reiterate once again, I find Clifford to be, in a practical sense, absolutely horrifying and these cartoons that Elliot is watching bear that out. Emily Elizabeth's family had to uproot themselves from the city to Birdwell Island to serve the needs of their crimson canine master. The writing on all these cartoons is slavish, all the characters constantly talk about how happy they are to do Clifford's bidding. The idea of a gigantic, blood red dog freaks me out, but Elliot loves it.
11 A.M. Early lunch of crackers, cheese, cut-up peaches, and water for Elliot. I check my e-mail and do random stuff on the internet. At 11:30, I put go upstairs and read Elliot two stories: Arthur's Underwear and Bread and Jam for Frances. They are INCREDIBLY wordy picture books, the Arthur book especially. Elliot's really into Arthur right now, but there is a marked difference between the first dozen or so Arthur books and the ones that Marc Brown wrote after PBS turned the books into a cartoon. The later books are so long and drawn out and I feel like it's pretty obvious that they're either adapted from scripts for the show or rough drafts for future cartoon adaptation. Micah texted me to let me know he's in Cincinnati tonight, but I'm stuck here with the kids.
12 A.M. to 2 P.M.ish Elliot naps and I try to nap. I read an old Rolling Stone I took out of the library with Lady Gaga on the cover and When I Stop Talking, You'll Know I'm Dead by uber-producer Jerry Weintraub. Weintraub seems to be trying to give Robert Evans a run for his money in the self-aggrandizing memoir department. Eventually I fall asleep.
3 P.M. Ellen and Henry return from their two-day trip to Northeastern Ohio. Ellen had to go to a funeral for a friend of hers who committed suicide. I met the woman sometime last year at Ellen's 10 year reunion and I really liked her. That's huge for me, because I don't really like anybody. It's a real shame and Ellen was really upset. I decided to stay here with Elliot to make things easier for her and it ended up working out. I have to admit, I didn't miss Ellen or Henry much in the moment because I was so concentrated on making sure that Elliot wasn't missing them, but I was freakin' overjoyed to see them again.
4 P.M. I go to Up, Up, and Away to pick up my comics. I spent a little over $20 dollars and picked up The Walking Dead #75 (LOVED the goofy fake-ending) Batman #700 (I didn't realize that it was written by Grant Morrison when it came out a few weeks ago, so I got it today) Jonah Hex #58, The Unwritten #15, Avengers Prime #2 (Alan Davis!) and Thor: The Mighty Avenger #1. I haven't read all my books yet, but that last one was the clear winner in the pile. Written by Roger Langridge and drawn by Chris Samnee, it's just a really fun book. Samnee's art is amazing; I've never heard of the guy before but he's terrific.
5 P.M. Get home from the comic store and go outside and blow bubbles with Elliot and Henry while Ellen made dinner. We had frittatas and broccoli for dinner.
6 P.M. Bathtime for Elliot and Henry.
....and that's all I'm going to do. That's quite a lot.
