Hi everybody! The time to move is nearly upon on us, and with great change comes great responsibility (or something like that). Great symbolism?
Great acts of filling out forms? Regardless, this post is covering two things: the mini plot event that'll segue our characters over to DW, and a few last steps for you before we get this show on the road.
First, for you:
● If you haven't already, you may now join
capeandcowl &
capeandcowllogs with your character accounts, and
capeandcowlooc with your character/personal accounts.
Membership to these WILL be based on the usernames you provided
here, so if you haven't hit that already, what are you waiting for? You'll get dropped if you don't--!
● Once you're accepted into OOC, please verify that
all your contact information is correct and up-to-date! Additionally, since so many players have them now anyway, we've added a line where you can list your plurk, in addition to AIM and email.
● OOC is currently a little cluttered and some things are being moved around and rewritten, so don't... pay any attention to that yet. TIME FLIES WHEN YOU BREAK EVERYTHING. Once we're settled over, we'll cover more clearly what all has been adjusted (such as: hey we threw out the villain cap system on apps yay)
● No, you can't make posts in any of the comms yet. SORRY! We need to do one last import to pull over stuff from Main and Logs. And OOC I am... vainly hoping to keep clear of real posts until February first, so the month of January on the calendar page will only show directory-related stuff. I HAVE A DREAM, DAMMIT. A DREAM OF ORGANIZATION...
● Oh, and if you haven't already attached your OPEN ID (LJ) accounts to your DW accounts, you can
do that now if you wish! Though be careful, the process cannot be undone, so choose wisely!
And I think that is everything for... now! With regards to that.
Anyway. On to the plot.
On the day of the move, February 1st, everyone's communicator is going to be mysteriously nuked, meaning they will permanently stop working and all data collected on those devices up to January 31st, 2012 will be gone. As a result, everyone will have to go back to the Porter building and pick up the new, improved communicators. These new communicators will have the archives intact, but they will be scrambled so it will be difficult, if not impossible, to tell who posted what anymore or find anything easily. Compare it to navigating the main community without tags or usernames. (... shut up we're working on it.)
These new communicators will resemble a cross between a
Samsung Doubletime and a
Nokia E90 Communicator, but will be most noticeably different from the old communicators in one regard: these ones, upon issuing, will be automatically registered to an imPort's identity, much like the dog-tags are. This means every post an imPort makes with their communicator will have their name -- first and last name / whatever name they give to the Porter / is in the first part of their labeling tag -- attached to it. Remember that "state your Name and Hero Alias" part of the welcome spiel? Yeah, it's that.
As such, after this point the only way to make anonymous/"alter-ego" network posts will be if a character manages to steal a new communicator that hasn't yet been registered. (This requires mod permission, of course, and you can request this on the
plot post!)
Additionally, the communicators will be slightly buggy at first (from 2/1 to 2/10), so be wary. Your encryptions might not be that encrypted, and who knows if they'll go where they're meant to. And hey, when did you program in that auto-record?
Of course, all possible glitches are voluntary on you-the-player's part; everyone loves a bit of chaos, don't they?
VOLUNTARY WAYS THE COMMUNICATORS CAN GLITCH:
✖ Cross-encryptions. You may encrypt it to X but it will go to Y (specify if and when this happens!).
✖ Cross- video. You may be X talking about her hot date, but it will show feed of Y taking a shower.
✖ Volume non-control. You might be whispering, but it will be heard as shouting, or vice versa.
Again, these glitches are entirely voluntary. Please plot with any players you are interested in doing something with.
Why the security change? Simple: You're all being watched much more closely! The communicators have been tampered with by someone who has been investigating the network.
Have fun. :)
