AFTER DINNER ahhmahbabies April 3 2010, 20:01:03 UTC
There's plates to be put away, washed, and dried. There's a living room with a big screen TV and various gaming consoles. There's the outside and it's a beautiful night in the City. There's also the students' rooms, but you'd have to ask them permission before entering first.

Since Amara was basically useless when it came to handling anything culinary, she was at the sink, surprisingly, washing the dishes. While she wasn't a fan of chores, Mrs. Guthrie had made the meal and so it was only polite to do the dishes.

So far, nothing was broken. For now.

Sam came up behind Amara, smiling. He grabbed a plate to dry and pulled away, and looked over at her.

"Like the dinner, girl?"

"Of course. Your mother is a wonderful cook."

She liked spending time with Mrs. Guthrie, maybe because her own mother had died and Mrs. Guthrie was just so... brimming with motherly-ness. It was nice. Not that she was Christian or believed in this holiday-- it was just nice to sit down with everyone and be together.

Amara handed Sam another plate. She was getting good at this washing business.

He took it from her, dried it and put it away.

"Ah'm glad you could enjoy it."

Dani walked toward the kitchen, pulling up on her sleeves to pitch in by handling the counter tops.

"Hey 'Mara. You need any extra help?"

Sally was busy bringing in the leftovers and setting them on the kitchen table.

"Hey, Amara? Do you know where any of the tupperware is?" she asked, and opened random cabinets.

Sam was hanging outside the kitchen after all the dishes were done and put away, just chilling. The day was a pretty good one, and he's happy with the way dinner turned out.

Sally was walking by the kitchen and spotted him. "Hey," she grinned, sliding up next to him. "Your mom is an amazing woman."

"I don't think I've ever eaten so much in my entire life," she told him, and leaned against the wall. "Did you like the potatoes?"

"Very good," he assured. "Didja make 'em?

"I did, yeah," she breathed a sigh of relief. She hadn't been too sure how they would turn out especially compared to Mama Guthrie's cooking. "I wasn't sure if they should be smooth or lumpy or what because everyone likes them different, you know?"

"Well, they were good!" he repeated. "Didja like the turkey?"

"I did," she promised. "You and Jay picked out a good one. I don't think I'd ever seen a turkey actually be cooked before today. My mom was big on boxed things."
