Maggie's in the library, standing on a ladder shelving a large stack of books in an upper storage area.

One book slips from her hands and begins to fall...

...allowing Jean-Paul to act very chivalrously, catching it before it's anywhere near the floor. He was only glancing in from the door to see if anyone was in here, but superspeed had many uses.

"Your book, madamoiselle," he says, offering Maggie a roguish wink. Let's just hope he doesn't startle her into falling on his head.

Fortunately, she's an alert sort--so while she remained on the ladder safely, it left her to wonder how someone got so near without her noticing. She hadn't been reading, she was sure of it.

"Uh..." her face grew red, its default answer to anything confusing or embarrassing. "Thank you." She paused. Had she seen him before? "Welcome to the library."

"And what a wonderful library it is!"

Jean-Paul isn't quite harsh enough to push the embarrassment factor any further, so he steps back.

"I don't believe we've met. I'm Jean-Paul Beaubier."

"Thank you."

Maggie decides it's time to come down off the ladder--she doesn't need to loom over people more than she already does--and offers her hand. "Maggie Mui. I work part-time here."

"A pleasure to meet you, Maggie," Jean-Paul says, gripping her hand firmly but briefly. "Would I be right in saying you're not a mutant? I have a fairly good memory for faces."

She returns the handshake similarly. "I'm not from your world. If you are from the same world as the X-Men. I do have... special abilities."

"Mmm," he says with a slight smile. "I take it that means you were ported in, too? I do wonder if people who didn't have powers before now have some sympathy for mutants."

He glances around. "It's interesting to see the X-Men diversifying their recruitment policies, though."

"I was 'Ported. But I've always..." She pauses, her face flickering. "Well, I had powers before I got here. I don't remember what it was like not to.

"But there aren't as many people in my world with powers as I understand yours was. And those who had powers tended to get snapped up by supergovernmental organizations to do covert ops."

She picked up a book, thumbing its pages in thought. "I should also clarify, I'm not an X-Man. I'm just Institute staff."
