Who: Kaiba and OPEN
Where: Agatha's Coffee shop
When: Day after the second round of the tournament.
Warning: Angry/sullen Kaiba
Summary: After the second round against Rua, Kaiba attempts to cope with losing.

It wasn’t unusual to spot Kaiba in a coffee shop. It had become part of his routine to stop by Agatha’s shop at least once a week. What was unusual was that even though his coffee was long gone, he was still there. He was staring at the cup, not really seeing it. It just gave his eyes something to focus on while he thought.

Kaiba could never handle losing well. As much as he had changed, as much as he had grown, he would never be able to handle a defeat. But the changes since his first defeat were leaving him at a loss for what to do. Two things he hated; losing and not being in control. It was bad enough to deal with one, it was worse to deal with both. Of course he knew that one was feeding off the other, but just because he rationally knew something didn’t make it any easier to deal with. Knowing that only made him more frustrated because he should have been able to deal with this rationally. The more frustrated he became the harder it was to think rationally and the bigger the dent in the disposable cup he was toying with became.

‘To lose is to die.’ A phrase he had lived by once…until Yuugi defeated him. No, that wasn’t true. He still lived by that creed to a point. He had lost several times since that first time and the only time it hadn’t resulted in death was when he faced the other Yuugi. Losing to Pegasus and Dartz had cost him his soul. The loss to Noa, that cheating virtual brat, turned him into stone. The only defeat that hadn’t in some way led to death was losing to Yuugi in the semi-finals in Battle City. Where did that put this loss?

Lost to a child. Some kid from the ‘future’ with cards he had never seen had taken down his Blue Eyes White Dragon with his imitation machine Dragon. He had been challenged to a battle of dragons and lost. How disgusted the Blue Eyes had to be with their master. Couldn’t even destroy an imitation dragon. It didn’t matter that he had never seen those cards before, or that synchro summons never existed in his time. Those were excuses for the weak that wouldn’t admit they lost. He admitted it; he just couldn’t deal with it.

He set the cup down, no longer interested after having stared at it for so long. A blank spot on the windowpane now held his attention. Yuugi losing had infuriated him. Him losing to the same foe was merely making him sullen. The title he used to hold and had made his company a success was slipping further away. He could only imagine how much worse it would get once the little brat started bragging.
