Standing outside her door, Jay's feelings were... complicated.

"Sooraya?" He swallowed, waiting a moment before he rapped his knuckles on the door once more. "Sooraya... I'm coming in now."

Waiting again, he prayed for any sort of response, but received none. Hesitantly, he opened the door, choking on her name and dropped to his knees at Sooraya's side. Overwhelmed with a mixture of relief and dread, he checked her hands, and sure enough, one of her fingertips was marked. Right. All he had to do was... Lord.

Jay watched her for a moment before gently sliding his arms beneath her shoulders and knees, reverently lifting Sooraya to lay her on the bed, sitting on the floor at her bedside. Unconsciously, his hand slid across the mattress to cover hers, fingers intertwining as Jay's other hand pushed back his hair.

Looking over at her, Sooraya always seemed so serene to him, now even moreso in her sleep. Jay was nearly envious as thousands of tiny doubts nagged him, from her religion to just his baggage. It wasn't that he didn't want to-- far from it. A simple kiss might be nothing to someone else, but what would it be to Sooraya?

Leaning over her, Jay closed his eyes so he wouldn't see her face before pushing aside the niqab she wore. Awkward, maybe, but he could at least... preserve some of her modesty. Cradling the side of her face, he bent down, bumping his nose against her cheek. He might have been embarrassed, if not for the nervous fluttering of his stomach.

He hovered, a hair's breadth away from her lips. A kiss that would last a moment, or a century of sleep. Selfishly, Jay tried to imagine a century without Sooraya, but couldn't.

He needed her.

Finally, Jay brushed his lips against hers in the lightest of kisses.
