The reason that Koltira had beaten Kel'thuzad only nearly to death rather than absolute death was because of his concern for Liadrin. Her condition had run through the back of his mind like an electrical current while he fought Kel'thuzad, prodding him to handle his grisly task quickly and then return home to care for her. He was therefore nonplussed to discover that someone had already tended to Liadrin in his absence, that someone had invaded the room they shared and had fed Liadrin yet more magic. Demonic magic, at that ( ... )

Eyeing the tray of food, her first thought was, 'Good, because I am starving.' but she knew better than to let it slip from her lips, especially if she wanted him to let her go. Instead, Liadrin forced herself to take on an expression of deep sympathy and sighed, "You do not look well..."

Koltira wasn't fooled by Liadrin's efforts in the slightest. He could see the distance in her eyes as her words made a show of reaching out to him, of trying to draw him to her. Her voice was so honeyed as to be saccharine. He set down the tray--a platter of strawberries, orange slices, and a wedge of cheese with a serving knife set on top of it, beside a glass goblet of spiced cider--and then went to work unfastening her bindings. The man he had tried to prevent her from seeing had entered the room regardless, so there was no point in the restraints. There never had been, he realized.

"Sit up and eat."

She flexed her fingers, rubbed her hands together, massaged her wrists carefully. Satisfied with her new found freedom, the elf turned and began to pick at the food on her plate. "Just because I do not feel sorrow does not mean that I am incapable of listening to you."

Popping a thin slice of cheese in her mouth, she leaned forward to take hold of his waist, dragging him to sit down on the bed beside her. "Or providing some small amount of comfort."

Analysis and advice were easiest to give with an unburdened mind, and as for listening to him, she could easily do that, too, for there was nothing she particularly cared to say.
