The light catches the side of his peripheral vision before he gets grabbed on and held in the air by the cape. Now that's an idea, pulling someone by his cape, because that won't choke anyone or be dangerous.

Well, okay, so it won't for Dick because his costume is well-made, but most people who wear capes don't think about it (which is why they shouldn't be wearing capes, the idiots) and having someone grab you by the cape is not conducive to immediately trusting whoever's holding onto it.

So Dick's reflex is to untie the neck of his cape and let himself fall on the ground, which isn't high enough to be any dangerous. Not for him, anyway. He falls gracefully on his feet and turns to face the newcomer, his staff extended in front of him.

He would have said something along the lines of 'what the fuck do you think you're doing?' if the guy's comment hadn't been some mental hit or some... people say it's like getting a bucket of iced water poured on your head.

Either way, it calms Dick down a little to realise what he was doing and the shudder going down his spine is very uncomfortable.

He keeps his defensive posture, but he's getting his head back, at least. "I wasn't -- I don't kill." His tone is even more defensive than his posture.

The kid's smart, so he wriggles his way out of his cape with ease. This leaves Toro with a bright yellow bundle of fabric in his arms and nothing else---the boy's down on the ground again with the general demeanor of a bristling cat wrapped in a wet towel. Tom drops the cape back down, tossing it at his face.

"You looked like you were rarin' to beat the pulse outta him, ace," he says, touching down and extinguishing his flame. He keeps the heat up, skin still glowing just a bit, because it's winter and hell if he wants to face the elements in a pair of shorts and nothing else. "What'd he do to you?"

Dick catches the cape before it hits his face and fastens it again with one hand, so he's not letting go of his weapon. The guy's words are still not helping at all; the opposite, really, because the thug hadn't done anything to Dick, Dick had just wanted to hurt him...

Thinking about Hal Jordan is not helping with his mental state at all, but at least he doesn't feel like passing his frustration on people, anymore. Or nearly so, but he's going to convince himself the urge is completely gone for now.

He looks at the man on the ground and -- he broke his collarbone. Shit. Shit.

"I'm gonna call an ambulance," he says, taking out his comm, "if you wanna keep going with the moral lesson, just wait a second."

He's composing the number and giving an intersection before letting Toro the chance to say anything. Now they'll have to move before the ambulance shows up.
