ARRIVAL bestmachine January 3 2010, 16:36:28 UTC
People are checked for weapons at the door by this lovely man. Feel free to strike up a conversation with him, or chatter with the others by the entrance.

[Cavil doesn't wait too far away from the entrance. After all, he wants to see who bothered to show up. He wants to attach faces to names. He wants to know.

He isn't very dressed up at all. He's wearing all black, granted, which makes him look put together, but that's no different than how he usually dresses. He doesn't see the point in gussying himself up more than he needs to do. He's presentable. That's what matters.]

[Lust doesn't need to smuggle in weapons, obviously; she is one, so although she recognizes the necessity of the check it's an entirely wasted gesture. She isn't wearing her dress, actually, which is a rarity; she has one of those... fucking casual too-short turtleneck dresses on, because I cannot stand looking for clothes online to link to shit okay. This would normally make her feel hella uncomfortable, but right now it's a deliberate gesture; she's not intimidated by anything in this place. The gloves stay, as ever.

Oh look, robobff!

She approaches and KIND OF SORT OF smiles at him, although it's more of a twisting upwards of the lips, partially because she isn't enjoying herself (yet???), but mostly because she suspects he's already well on his way to miserable.]

Cavil.

[WOW, VERBOSE.]

[He gives a smile of his own when he sees her, an almost self-satisfied smirk, since, although he is on his way to miserable, Lust is one of the few people he was hoping would show up. And she did.]

The name's Thomas-- [He throws a glance over his shoulder - all clear? Yes.] --for tonight. Admittedly, I'm not all that fond of it, but you do what you do. It's nice to see you.

[Oh. The aliases. Lust would be slightly embarrassed, but then again, she doesn't actually care.]

We're on a first name basis, then?

[She extends her hand. You know, to shake his, not for ultraviolence. She's used this alias before, but honestly, given the flux the City is constantly in and the obvious lack of Knives and Selina, who will notice? Given that they've already provided their aliases, I'm assuming, it's an utterly pointless gesture, but whatever, take mah haaaaaaaaaand Mr. Roboto.]

It's Claire.

[He raises his eyebrows. Whether it's fake concern or fake surprise is hard to say, but it's obviously a gesture.]

I hope that's not a problem. [He takes her hand and shakes it.] Claire. Do be sure to enjoy yourself tonight.

I HAVE EDITED MORE THAN YOU HUSH :( easytochop January 3 2010, 19:10:58 UTC
Not at all.

[Glowing fake smile!]

Perhaps I'll speak to you later, Thomas? I'll try not to hate it too much if you'll do the same.

[AND THEN WITHOUT FOREWARNING SHE SAUNTERS OFF LA LA LA]

[ GLaDOS, despite her general misanthropy, is a generally social creature -- a symptom, perhaps, of all of the crawling around she does in other people's business. When she arrives, it's in a newly acquired bright yellow cocktail dress. She manages her way up the stairs of the mansion on teetering heels; by the time she's been searched by the man at the door, she's already taken off her shoes. They dangle loosely from one hand as she pads -- barefoot -- over to Cavil with a small, knowing smile. ]

HELLO THERE

[Being one of the few people to recognize GLaDOS for her human form, he doesn't skip a beat. He returns the smile and offers a hand to shake, a formality neither of them need by now. It helps with the image, in a way.]

Hello yourself.

[ By now, GLaDOS understands the hand offered to her. Once upon a time, she would do nothing but stare silently at it, but this time she takes it and gives a small, weak-handed shake. ]

MY NAME IS DIANA SHELLBY
WHAT IS YOURS

Thomas Primo. [Another, wider smile.] I'm so very glad you could make it, Diana. You're looking well.

[ GLaDOS's eyes go very wide as she nods in agreement. Her hand moves to smooth the front of her dress while the other continues to dangle her shoes by her side. ]

OF COURSE I WOULD COME
THOMAS PRIMO
IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE I LAST SAW YOU
I BELIEVE
I WAS BEGINNING TO MISS YOU
AND OUR CHATS
DID YOU RECEIVE MY DELIVERY

[ The delivery she's referring to is a very large multi-tiered chocolate cake that GLaDOS made herself. When it arrived, it came with a note to Cavil that simply read: NOT POISONED. ]

I did. [Despite his wonderful, trusting nature, he made Doral grow another copy of himself to give it a bit of an unofficial test. You know.] They've set it up out in the other room. It was very kind of you, by the way. Outside food is technically prohibited, but I figured it could be our little secret. Did you make it yourself?

Palpatine was not one to change his appearance just because of a need for secrecy. Many in the city did not recognize him anyways, and besides, who would be intimidated by a frail-looking old man with a cane? He made his way past the man at the door, as he was carrying no weapons on his person, and to give away his cane would just be cruel. He looked up as he approached Cavil, giving off an air of quiet, calm superiority, despite appearing to be old and weak. His yellow eyes met those of Cavil, and a small smirk crossed his aged features.

"Brother Cavil, I presume?"

He wasn't a fan of that calm superiority, especially when, in part, it was directed towards him. His knowledge of Palatine was relatively light. He was probably a human. He was leading an entire galaxy. He was not well-liked.

He was powerful.

"Yes," he said slowly. "But not tonight. Allow me to welcome you to the party."

"Of course," he replied, taking a moment to assess the man in front of him. He knew next to nothing about him, and that bothered him slightly. Of course, they'd spoken before, but never in person.

"It is most hospitable of you to have us. I'm sure that we can get a chance to know each other better." Another smile.
