They had not celebrated Christmas on Avalon and, if they had, the festivities would have been far more religious than they were in the modern world. Angela's knowledge of the holiday came largely from the television, though Broadway and the others had offered up a number of contributions during her time in Manhattan. They had mentioned a strange man called Santa Claus and the wonderful food but, all in all, it had been decided that Halloween was much more important for gargoyles.
Consequently, the young gargoyle had watched the city's festive preparations with a great deal of interest and little understanding. The electrical lights, the decorations, the carols, the tree ... it was all so strange. Strange and rather exciting.
It would be odd to celebrate the holiday without the rest of the clan, but one thing that her research agreed on - the only thing that her research agreed on, in fact - was that spending time with your family was an important part of Christmas. Goliath and Elisa were her family.
Angela wasn't a very good cook - Broadway was the only member of the Manhattan clan with culinary skills - but she could, at least, make sure that her father and Elisa had presents to unwrap when the night came. She chose a rather heavy book by Dostoevsky for her father and a scarf and gloves set for Elisa, hiding them in the apartment in preparation.
When the sun set on Christmas day, she awoke from her stone sleep with a familiar roar, before turning to Goliath with a bright smile.
"Merry Christmas, father! Isn't it a wonderful night?"
