WHERE: A somewhat sketchy and rundown gym in an area of town that is also somewhat sketchy and rundown.

SUMMARY: Kate and Holly work out, meet each other, and then decide to have a little boxing match.

Kate rarely, if ever, worked out in a public place. She had been somewhat spoiled by her father's training-- being rich and having an underground lair to lift weights was very useful. Her father had always been her trainer, having been a colonel in the army and knowing exactly how to work her into the fighting machine that she was. But now alone in the city with no money or resources, Kate resigned herself to going to the gym. The least expensive gym in the city probably held the most criminals but that suited Kate fine-- two birds, one stone, much? It was annoying, however, that there were only a handful of females in the whole shoddy facility and the men looked less than welcoming. The few men that weren't laughing or glaring were enjoying the view of the redhead in a tank top.
She was no lightweight. At 5'10", Kate was sturdily built and could keep up with the best of them. The scar on her chest, however, was holding her back from reaching her full potential. She remembered her father's words-- You may never be at 100% ever again. At that moment, she had showed no emotion but the words ached as much as the scar did. Kate wasn't good at knowing her limit and so had, in one gym sitting, ran on the treadmill for forty five minutes, jumped rope, lifted weights, and was currently upside down from a bar doing crunches.
Her scar was staring to sting something fierce but she ignored it. Kate had to stay in top shape. Her life depended on it. And really, she loved to work out. Focusing on her breathing and heart rate and the strain of muscles working made her forget about everything else. About her failed relationship with Anna, about seeing Renee, about being penniless in a strange city. Everything.
