lunch in a quiet cafe [closed]

Jul 30, 2009 01:49

WHO: Jean and Rachel
WHERE: A nondescript but comfortable cafe near the outskirts of the City.
WHEN: July 29th
WARNINGS: -
SUMMARY: Mother and daughter chat over lunch.
FORMAT: Paragraph.

Jean flew herself there telekinetically. Normally she would have avoided such a high-profile stunt and taken a cab, but today she felt the need to be up there, away from it all, above the City like a bird. The cold air cleared her head quickly. Looking down was almost dizzying, and she was struck by a rush of mixed emotions as the buildings slid beneath her: this City, the place she had been brought to against her will. She was becoming oddly fond of it; it was a lot like New York back home. But she hated it too, because she was stuck here and, God, so many things had happened in the short time since her arrival.

She made sure there was no one in proximity when she descended, lowering herself to the ground with her TK. There had been enough superhuman scares recently without her adding to the list of reckless stunts.

The cafe she had picked for them to meet was small but cosy, its few tables and chairs clustered together under a striped awning. The sun was hot on her skin as she crossed the road and ducked into the shade, picking a table at the side to sit and wait for Rachel. Jean ordered ice tea, then folded her arms to wait.

She was looking forward to seeing Rachel. When was the last time they had met...? After she and Scott - she abruptly yanked her mind away from that memory. The pain from their recent conversation was still too fresh. Scott. Jean pushed the thought of him from her mind. Rachel. This place had made things so complicated. Rachel's present was her future, and her future...was not good. She shook her head, grateful just for this opportunity to talk to her daughter. "You always miss each other," Scott had said. He was right.
