POSTING ORDER: CABLE, PENNY, SAM ahhmahgawd June 20 2009, 00:49:14 UTC
Since Cable was too important to answer a door, Sam had to do it. He got up from his chair and went over, opening it and sort of smiling at the girl behind it.

"Hey." He greeted. "Don't mind the mess."

He gestured for her to come in.

The last time Cable was here, he was stripping away his rough exterior in order to convince Rictor to come back to X-Force. It was an emotionally tiring day, but in the end, they were all together again.

Now, this was different. It was helping a suspect become sentient again as well as protect the location of X-Force's headquarters. They brought in computers, tools, and anything else that could aid them in fixing Rimmer.

Cable was not sure how advanced the technology was, but with Sam's help, they could pull it off.

And damn right he was too important to answer the door.

"Penny?"

Sam stood back and watched her. He grinned at the name she called Nate, but said nothing about it. It was weird hearing 'mister' get attached to it; Penny almost sounded like Mary.

Sam just closed the door and waited for whatever Cable's orders were.

She was a small, fragile young woman, but what stood out to Cable was her red hair. He had a hunch that she did not mean any harm to Cable or his team.

"Cable is fine," he smiled, gesturing toward the table and chairs placed in the middle of the room. "have a seat and we'll take a look at your friend."

Sam watched all of this with his arms folded, still waiting for any orders. This Rimmer thing was real weird.

Cable followed her to the table and towered over her as she unwrapped the chip. It was larger than he expected. The more advanced, the smaller was the usual trend for this time.

"And what happens when it is working?" He asked, rubbing his chin and examining the chip from afar.

The light bee was both simple and complex at the same time. The casing was bristling with buttons, lights and circuits, but the whole thing snapped open along its equator by the simple expedient of a hinge.

Inside of the bee was room for a lot of wiring, but was only occupied by two objects: a smaller chip, about the size and shape of an olive, and another lump of metal that was slightly bigger. The latter was a solid mass of mercury-coloured metal, and shaped like a miniature sea urchin. This was his hard-light drive, invented by the gestalt entity Legion.

The small, roundish chip was his battery pack. It was dead. That would explain why nothing was happening when Penny pushed the button.

"May I?" Cable asked, fingers hovering over the object. If he was going to save Penny's...very close friend then he was going to need to examine the chip more closely. It sounded like it just needed some juice, but better look further into it than jumping to conclusions.

"Sam? Get some coffee for the young lady," he called over his shoulder. Might as well make Cannonball useful.

Cable smiled sadly. "You can trust me."

It was better than Hodge or any of the other creeps in town. Cable was grateful that Sam got to Penny first, and he sent that thought his way (he had been a bit of a bear lately...).

He used his telekinesis to lift the object from Penny's hands. It floated in midair with a blue energy surrounding it. Cable turned it over, studying it from all angles before taking a steel plate, microscope, and other instruments carefully to the table (his telekinesis could multitask). He set the object gently on the plate before taking a seat and getting right down to business.

As he began to pick apart the object, Cable felt his troubles lifted slightly. He paused and looked over his shoulder at the cause--Penny. Cable actually had to smile at that one and nodded his thanks before going back to work.

They may not trust Rimmer, but his girlfriend was not so bad.
