[ Ginny had been tipped off about this by Tonks. She's bringing with her a very large glass bowl, inside of which is a rhubarb crumble she made. She thought there'd be plenty of cake as it was, and besides which after all the Christmas food she'd wanted to make something different. She's also got a gift bag over her arm for Andromeda. Ginny hadn't been at all sure what to get her, but had at last opted for a pair of earrings. ]

Happy birthday, Andromeda! I hope you're having a good day.

[If the wide grin on her face is any indication, she's having a very good day.]

Thank you, dear. Your dessert looks like it's a good change from the pumpkin pasties we've all been stuffing ourselves with.

Well I hope you like it! I've not worked up to pumpkin pasties yet.

[ She sets the pie down on the table, and offers Andromeda the present. ] This is for you.

I could never make them, personally.

[She takes the present with a nod, handling it carefully.]

That was very thoughtful of you, love.

I might have a go at some point, I reckon they'd go down well here. Maybe for next Thanksgiving.

[ She thinks that's when they have all the pumpkins, anyway... ]

I think that'd be a good idea.

[She tilts her head to the side.]

Are you doing all right?

I'm doing quite well, thank you. I missed home a bit, over Christmas. Because I'm not used to not being home for it, you know?

Yes, it's a big adjustment. Has been for everyone here, I think.

Have you been making -- friends, at least?

Yes. [ Ginny's not sure why Andromeda paused before saying that word, and hopes she's not getting the wrong end of the stick with this. ]

Everyone here is lovely. I've been spending a lot of time around Midii and Trowa lately, actually. They're nice kids.

[She just doesn't know if asking Ginny if she has anyone special in her life is too nosy or not, that's all.

She nods, raising her eyebrow at the mention of Midii.]

I'm glad to see that she -- Midii, that is -- has someone to talk to. She seems like a sweet girl, if a bit unconventional.

[ That is entirely what Ginny was afraid of. ]

She is. I think so anyway. Trowa's sweet too. I think it's good they're friends, they seem to have some things in common.

There were some others who were important too. But I don't see much of them.

That seems to happen here, unfortunately.

[She rubs the back of her neck. Well, that got depressing fast, didn't it?]

Oh. [ Ginny looks surprised. ] I'm sorry, I didn't realise...

Did someone disappear?

Just a few people I've met here. One of them's returned since then, but there was also Remus -- and a doctor friend of mine.

I was sad to hear about Remus. I mean, I know we all have to leave here eventually, but... [ But it probably means she won't see Remus again, unless he comes back to the City. ]

A doctor?

[She nods slowly.]

Nobody you'd have reason to know, but I think it's affecting his friend here.

Yes, it's -- difficult when you know what might befall a person once they leave here.

[Certain death, for example.]
