[ she didn't want to admit it, but cassie's vision had scared her shitless. just the thought of that thing still being around was enough to freak her out, but the idea of it being in her again? well. she didn't sleep at all that night, that's for sure.

it's not really it that she's scared of. she knows that she had some control over it before it got sucked out of her. no, what scares her is the possibilities of what could happen if it was real and if she ever lost control. she still remembers the flashes of the hospital, of the mangled bodies and the blood painting the walls. she remembers her own death and- no. it'll be fine. cassie's wrong and even if she's right, gwen has control. she does. really.

but no one can find out. she remembers s.h.i.e.l.d. and them capturing her and their tests and questioning and keeping her locked up and- no one can find out. she'll just pretend like cassie's warning never came and life will go on as usual. if she doesn't think about it, she won't transform, no one will find out, no one will die, and everything will be good, right? right.

... except there's that nagging feeling in her that says something isn't right. there's nothing else in her head, there hasn't been any strange instincts when things have happened around the city. if it was there, she would've felt that. that's a fact that she knows in her gut and beyond a shadow of a doubt. so what is it cassie was warning her about if it wasn't actually the monster that killed her come back to possess her body again? she thinks back to her conversations with cassie and realization hits her like a ton of bricks over her head.

she didn't think she had a power from the porter. maybe she was wrong. and wouldn't that just be her luck? to have a power that mimics the time she had to share her body with some blobbily monster.

eventually, the uncertainty in her means she needs to see for herself. she walks into the bathroom and stares at herself in the mirror above the sink. her hair's a rat's next. there's dark circles under her eyes. she looks like a mess. a deep, shaky breath in and she concentrates, trying to remember what it was like before. red creeps over her skin, she can feel her face changing and soon enough, her face is no longer her face.

she wants to scream, but she doesn't have the voice to. instead, she just stands there, in her pajamas, in her bathroom, trembling. no one can know, no one can know, no one can know- she whimpers.

she can't do this by herself.

but who the hell does she call? johnny's gone. peter? he's not her peter, he's not going to understand everything that goes along with this, and she doesn't want to explain to him that she's technically dead. jess? maybe. but gwen doesn't know if jess knows about this whole thing for sure. a few other names flit through her head - may, bucky, maybe one of the other spider-associated people - but she doesn't trust them. not for this.

she turns tail and runs out into the front room to grab her phone. her hands shake as she sends jess a text message and then curls up in a corner where no one opening the door or coming in through the window would be able to see her face easily. ]
