( Discipline and training had been large parts of Damian's life and routine from day one. In fact, his daily hours of meditation one of the few things that had crossed over from his life with Talia, to his life with Dick, to his life here in the City. So while Damian wasn't a sentimental creature, something about the act resonated with him.

Having someone along was a different matter. Damian wanted to help Nill however he could, but another presence could be distracting. So while he stood on his hands and tried to find the perfect mix of balance and focus, he was acutely aware of her presence. )

You're bored?

[Not wanting to disappointed him, she shook her head; she could sit longer, but it might help to try something else. He was standing on his hands; maybe she could do that. She'd never tried, of course, but what was the worst that could happen? So, trying to be as quiet as possible, she uncrossed her legs and got on all fours, looking at him for a moment to judge just how to do this. After a few seconds she gives it a try, pushing off from the dojo floor with her bare feet. And, for a bit, it seemed as if she could do it ( ... )

( Damian watched her out of one eye, trying to decide whether giving her advice or to let her get there on her own. Her tenacity was admirable, he had to admit, but his lips did quirk upwards in a hint of a smirk as he watched her.

Eventually he sighed, shook his head, and lowered his legs to the ground, straightening up all in one fluid movement. )

It's about balance. Your body has to get used to it, first. Try leaning against the wall.

[Nill was able to see him in her peripheral vision, and was slightly jealous with how practiced and easy the movement looked. She had seen Danny do things like that too, and it always made her feel awkward during training sessions. But she sat up, wings stretching behind her as she looked at the wall, choosing a spot. Nill got to her feet and moves to it. She considers how to go about this, and settles on facing the wall so that when she's on her hands, back will be to it.

And she pushes off and is up, wings out to help, actually managing to stay up for about thirty seconds before falling to her stomach. The loss of air from her lungs is audible, and she lies on the floor, stunned for a moment.]
