She knows there's another Batwoman taking to the streets. She's known for some time now, but only tonight, after she's settled properly into her new living arrangements with Nill that she's out with the determination to seek this other Bat out.

She spends the first hour purposely avoiding shadows and dark corners. The red was never meant to pop during night OPS, though it could certainly attract attention if someone had a keen eye for capes.

Then she settles to a rooftop, overlooking the buildings and streets below. It's risky to leave herself out in the open like this, but it might draw the other out. Time will tell.

Despite everything, it wasn't actually her meeting with Dick that she was looking forward to least, but rather whenever she inevitably ran into the other Batwoman. She knows it's going to come sometime. Dick just wants to test her, a test she's confident she can pass.

This other Batwoman might want her to stop using the name, and Max isn't willing to give that up.

But it's no use putting it off. She's been putting too many things off recently. The meeting with Dick hadn't been horrific - who was to say this one wouldn't be decent too? So when she catches a glimpse of her on a rooftop, she walks towards her, slowly and open handed.

"Hello, Batwoman," she says.

With her cape wrapped around her, she turns to face this Batwoman. The uniform differs from hers and the others, but it's the symbol on her chest she's taken an interest in at the moment.

"Figured you'd show up eventually," she says, lips tugging into a smirk for now.

She swallows and then manages a return smile of her own. Think positive thoughts, Max, she tells herself. This will be fine.

"I thought you might want to talk," Max says. "So here I am."

While she cannot determine if this other Batwoman is young or simply new to this, she does take note of the casual attitude. Though, unmasking this woman was hardly a priority of hers.

"Interesting thing, when I started to hear about Batwoman from others." Places she hasn't been, people she hasn't fought. "But I think you know this isn't a game."

She shakes her head briefly, smile slipping into something more serious.

"No," she says. "It's not a game. It's -" she pauses, searching for the right words, but can't find them. "It's important to me," she says, trying to make that clear in her voice. "As I'm sure it is to you."

A brief pause; she understands as well, but her pride is rears its head quickly.

"I'm not much of the sharing type."

And here is what she's been afraid of.

"Do you expect me to do something about that?" she says, straightforward. It's probably best to just get it clear exactly what other-Batwoman thinks is going to happen here.

She takes a step forward; a bold one mostly to see if this woman is easily psyched or not. She's got guts, she'll give her that. It still ease her feelings that something she claimed for herself was being stripped away from her. Call it a childish reaction, but Kate was on the defense with someone she doesn't know. Someone she hasn't seen till now and only heard whispers of among the streets and alleyways.

"Batwoman's taken," she answers in a coolly fashion.

Max stands her ground and frowns. It's not an unreasonable reaction on the other woman's part, granted, but she's starting to feel defensive and on edge, having to force her muscles to remain relaxed and not tense up. Max can fight. This woman is a warrior. There's a difference, and Max can feel it.

"In your time," she points out, stubborn. "Not in mine. Besides, there's two Batmen now. I don't see why there can't be two Batwomen as well."

"Your time?" It's not the most elegant sidestep, but with time disparities and other universes out there, curiosity demanded she find out where this Batwoman is coming from. "What year?"

"The future," she says. "I think time rules say I'm not supposed to tell you details, even if we're not from the same universe." Not to mention compromising her identity - there's only person on the network who can be tied to the year 2040, and that's her. She doesn't feel a need to mention that, though.

She falls silent for a minute -- maybe contemplating something. The mask does well to conceal her expressions.

Then, a touch curious: "Why not Batgirl?" Then again, there is an abundance of them.

Because Batgirl was Barbara's, she thinks, and all the complicated history and emotions that came with that. Batwoman was... neutral. Nobody else's, something she could claim and make hers. Well. Nobody else's until she'd found out about this one. "Batgirl was unavailable," she settles for. "And I always preferred the name Batwoman."
