SUMMARY: it's jim's birthday. he's getting drunk on the roof of the mac.

Most of the time, Jim is content to leave his angry, drunken Iowan farm-boy days in the past. He very well knows he was one fucked up kid before he joined Starfleet, and he knows that he's more or less grown past that. There is one day a year, however, that he just does not want to deal with.
He's gotten over the urge to yell at the memorial for the U.S.S. Kelvin on his birthday (not that he could do it here, anyways) which he's pretty proud of himself for doing. But he's still more emotional than he'd like to admit today. Which is, of course, why he spends most of the day elsewhere. He gets as far away from people as he can and stays there as long as possible. That can't last, though. Unfortunately.
And that is how he ends up sitting on the roof of the MAC, looking out over the City, beer in hand. There's more unopened cans sitting by him, and a few empty ones scattered around. Despite his reputation for being somewhat reckless, he knew not to get drunk until he was positive he wasn't going to try and travel anywhere. He's surprisingly quiet, sitting there in his sweatshirt and jeans, fiddling with a half-assed cardboard replica of the Kelvin he put together earlier. Clearly, he needs to be bothered some.
