It took him a while to figure out where exactly to head. His fault, arguably -- he didn't start really looking until right before it would have been prudent to head out. He had the feeling the communicator, and all the little internet bits, could have helped him, but he didn't know how to get the information out. So he'd had to resort to asking directions.

Then once he got to the school, finding Wagner's office became another hunt.

But he got it all sorted, and only a bit later than he would have liked, there's a rather tall gent with awful hair poking his head in and giving a knock on the doorframe.

"Hello? Hey."

"Ah. Hello!" Cheerful smile instantly on, Kurt set the paper he'd been marking aside and stood to greet Mister Pinkerton. "Thank you for coming. I began to fear my directions were far too non-specific. My apologies."

He held out a friendly hand. "In any case, thank you for coming."

"Nah. I just got turned around a few times." Maybe he wasn't the best at navigating. So?

A brief hiccup, a pause -- thrown for a second -- as he saw Kurt's hands, then, shaking it off, he went ahead and shook.

"No problem. Nice school. Nicer than I went to as a lad, that's for sure." At least, on the surface. How they treated the kids remained to be seen, and that was the real important thing. "Lessee what you've got? What're your plans for the show? What kinds of acts, what kind of space?"

People here rarely reacted to his appearance any more, and only slightly when they did. He might as well continue the slight surprises with the easiest way to travel, answer all of the questions as succinctly as possible.

"Hold your breath for a moment, if you please." He gave the slight warning and, having not yet released Floyd's hand, a crack of sound and smoke saw them suddenly elsewhere. The school's auditorium was suitably sized for the institution itself, nothing grand. Kurt had teleported them both onto the stage itself, and he dropped the fellow's hand to gesture to the general area.

"This kind of space. Nothing fancy. The acts are skill being confirmed and finalized, but, again, fairly standard for what you might expect of a talent show. Singing, dancing... I've got a lad doing story-telling and a pair of girls doing martial arts. That sort of thing."

Hold his breath? Why --

Then that sound and the smoke, and what just happened? They're -- what? Stage. What? Pink took a stumbling step back, eyes wide. "Fuck!" And then a small bit of coughing, because he caught that smell. "Fucking -- warn a bloke!"

It looked like he was going to need a second to get his mental ducks in a row, before he really took in the 'venue.'

It was perfectly possible that Kurt was stifling a laugh at the reaction. Fun at the expense of another was occasionally allowed, and... Well, it hadn't been his intention to so fully startle Mr. Pinkerton.

He was obviously not feel too guilty about it, however, as he did smile and let out a little chiding noise. "Language, Herr Pink. You will be working with children."

Pink glared, the glare of a man who would really like to say something scathing, for being made a fool of. But he didn't. He just huffed, and tugged down his shirt. "You could've warned me."

He turned away, finally looking over the space. Right, moving on! "...sound for this should be pretty easy. 'less the equipment's just nonexistent. If you've got any of the kids that're using instruments, though, I'd like to talk to 'em beforehand. And any of 'em that are having background music set behind them... a list..."

"The information should be easily enough compiled. I will be sure to have it to you in plenty of time."

As for the equipment itself... Kurt nodded towards the back of the seating space, where a glass window stood in the wall. "All of the controls are up there. If you'd like to take a look, we can walk this time."

"Soon as you're able. I like a little extra time. Work out all the kinks." Sure he was used to exponentially more complicated projects, and their exponentially more complicated... complications. But it was still a good habit.

He looked up, following Kurt's gesture, and nodded, nose wrinkling. "Let's."

"Of course." There was nothing at all wrong with wanting to be timely. He'd prefer nothing perfectly preventable go wrong, himself, so he'd be glad to oblige the request. Now there was just the unpreventable to worry about, but... Well, what could anybody do about that sort of thing?

Kurt hopped from the edge of the stage and started up the aisle, through one of the doors in the back of the auditorium and to another. It opened to the small flight of stairs that led to the sound booth, and he gestured for Floyd to go first. "After you."

The equipment was, he suspected, fairly standard for a sound set-up, though he was of the opinion that all of the buttons and dials made it appear needlessly complicated. For all the times he'd piloted or helped repair jets and the like, stage sound systems were a piece of technology that had so far escaped his sphere of capability.

He hung back and let the man look it over.

Up and up the stairs, into the sound booth.

It really wasn't the sort of setup he was used to -- a stage, versus a stage or a studio -- but enough things remained the same, up here, that he wasn't worried. Just a lot smaller scale. He knew what those buttons and dials meant.

"Yeah. I can work with this. You know if there's tapes somewhere, I can play and see how it's tuned?" Soundtracks, sound effects... tapes or CDs. He was just used to tapes.

"I am not sure about tapes." However, there was a little set of drawers right over there, and Kurt assumed that it would hold all of the small essential wonders of the room. The first drawer was predominately a mess of cords, the second... Ah, there we go. Much more organized at a glance than the drawer of cords, the second drawer held a group of CDs.

"Voila."

"Brilliant."

He'd just have a look at those, then. Sound effects, soundtracks, dance mixes, classical... a yelp of delight, as he pulled out one of the CDs. "Berlioz! Fantastic! Let's give this a go."

He was getting the hang of modern technology, at least. Didn't take him long at all to find where the CD should go. And then some nice classical.

Kurt didn't have much to contribute to the process, at this point. He stood in a place that he was sure was unobtrusive and simply listened without thought to whatever technical things were going on with the sound-system.

He liked music. Being incapable of playing instruments, the skill had always been something extraordinarily fascinating and a little enviable. Lacking that ability, though, with music... He was a fellow of movement. While he was doing a fairly fine job of standing still, he was still nodding, shifting, his tail swaying in time to the music while his mind wandered off somewhere.

It was probably off in the past. He was doing that a lot, lately.

Pink didn't mind the lack of participation, absorbed in the technical aspects of the job. Checking all the settings and capabilities of the sound system, running outside, occasionally, to see what parts of the space got good sound, or not.

And enjoying some good music in the bargain.

"It's really not a bad setup." Especially for what it was. "I can get some good sound out of it."

late to all the tagging officially. Sorry! in_likeflynn December 17 2011, 15:25:38 UTC
"Sehr gut. I am glad to hear it." To know that things were thus far running quite smoothly was always comforting, even for simple things. Tick one item off of the list.

"I will be sure to try and get everything you asked for very promptly. Should you require anything else, of course, feel free to let me know." Also, naturally, there's manners, and the genuine gratitude that comes with the words: "Thank you. I do appreciate this."
