Doom had always been a dangerous ally, but an even more dangerous foe. Not one that Namor hadn't tangled with before, of course, but he wasn't going to do it for no reason, even here. He had no idea whether or not the man had been amplified or diminished by the teleporting machine's irritating whims, and simply having no armies certainly wouldn't make the Latverian lord some sort of helpless target ( ... )

Doom would allow himself to admit to some comfort in the familiarity of Namor's greeting. Long had he and the Atlantean been allies and long had they shared a mutual respect and disinterest in the equivalent of this city and its various heroes. Victor could only imagine what words and insights Namor would have to share on his time spent here.

He nodded in reply, a movement almost imperceptible underneath the heavy armor and cloak billowing in the riverfront wind. "Your punctuality is appreciated, Namor."

:( oh god i'm sorry this took so long kingofatlantis November 21 2011, 07:47:38 UTC
"Of course." He turned his head to survey the mostly still water for a moment, before he went back to scrutinizing Doom. Well, the man certainly didn't seem any different yet. Small blessing, considering the myriad of alternate universes the machine indulged in. For God's sake, he could have been like the horrifyingly re-teenaged Johnny currently traipsing about the City.

Well, as long as Sue didn't show up as some high school girl, Namor would be fine.

"Do not keep me waiting, then."

"There was a time in my life when I sought to travel between worlds, rather than make what I would of the one from which we were taken. My pursuits and goals have changed, and as such, that field of study had lost its appeal. But what I learned is not gone." Doom shifted his weight, listening for the familiar rustle of wool and silk against metal.

"I seek to build another porter. Stark has warned me that this is impossible, but he has not the same level of experiences with such devices."

Namor waved a hand pointedly. "Stark has proven that he is more than content to sit around on his ass for three years. I have my doubts that he even tried such things before deciding them impossible." Okay that's totally unfair, but Namor has never really been a giving guy. Plus who doesn't enjoy taking potshots at Iron Man?

"The technology here is pitiful, you realize. Even by surface standards."

Everyone enjoys taking potshots at Iron Man. Why should Doom and Namor claim to be exceptions? Head bowed in only half heartedly contained amusement, Doom fixed his gaze on Namor. "And when has such a setback been a limitation to me?"

It was a valid point, though. The technology used by the network was at least three years outdated, but Doom's count, and the same was true of the lab in which he'd awoke. But considering that was the product of his newly acquired enemy, an enemy which showed little desire to enhance itself, perhaps he should be grateful.
