[Vic was satisfied to sit back and let the cops do what they would. He made notes as necessary, but didn't have much to offer himself. Most of those cards would be played more closely for now.]

[ Tonks thinks she recognizes Vic. She walks over to him. ]

Haven't we spoken before?

[He studies her face a moment, trying to place it. Finally, with a flash of recognition, he smiles and offers his hand.]

Pigeons, right?

Vic Sage, I'm a freelancer.

[ Tonks thinks back. She suddenly brightens. ]

Yes! The pigeons. That was disgusting, yeah?

[ She accepts his hand. ]

Wotcher Vic. I'm Tonks, an officer.

Rats with wings. Interesting week, couldn't have happened to a better city.

[He slips his hat back a little, out of his face. Might as well be friendly if he's making friends.]

So, an officer. Figure someone has to be, right? How's it treating you?

To be perfectly honest, I would've rather it not happened at all.

[ She makes a face. Tonks can't help it. It had been a gross week. ]

That's true. Someone has to be and I like it just fine. It's a bit odd sometimes. Things are definitely a bit different and there's a lot for me to learn but I like it.

What about you? How's the life of a freelancer? What exactly do you freelance?

A bit different? You did work like this back home?

[He pulls a business card out of his jacket and hands it to her. It's nothing too elaborate, just says "Vic Sage, Private Investigator", followed by his numbered and the address to his office. Okay, so it might have a watermark on it. Of a question mark, of course.]

I freelance whatever the client needs freelanced. Usually, that's finding or investigating things.

I was an Auror. Basically, it was my job to investigate crimes and people suspected of using the Dark Arts.

[ Tonks accepts the card. She reads it before sliding it into her pocket. Hey! She might need him to freelance something for her one day. ]

Is that what you did back home?

Dark Arts, like magic?

[Vic never really liked playing with magic by himself, as he hadn't had much experience with it before coming here. But he did like having people he could call to consult on such situations.]

Something like it. Not quite as rooted after I stopped reading the news, but investigation's played a substantial part in my life for almost twenty years now.

Yeah, exactly like magic, the bad sort though.

Do you get a lot of work here?

I'm no expert, but I always figured the bad would depend on use rather than some intrinsic quality of the spell.

I get a fair amount. I'm certainly not hurting for it.
