Frog-monsters, squid-monsters, ugly...thing-monsters...oh, and dinosaurs. Jaime definitely had to mark off dinosaurs. Except those were the good guys? Which was weird. But that's what was going down. And at least now he knows not to punch out one of those giant...giant things, too. They're in cahoots with the dinosaurs.

Weird.

He had parted ways with Jack Bauer, having left him closer to more hero-congested areas, and veered off for very important reasons. Helping civilians, for one, obviously, because that was his thing. But also his apartment. For some reason or another - maybe the traffic was just really good there? - those bad, not-dinosaur beasties kept zigzagging on their way to places unknown by taking directs awful close to his new place. Jaime wasn't very okay with it...but civilians first. Stragglers were still in a good number, because even though it was an alternate New York City, it was still New York City. And people in that city are made of tougher, stubborn stuff.

Not tough enough to fight off ocean nightmare monsters, however. And that's where the Blue Beetle came in.

Back to work.

She stopped in a rare moment of solitude, gaze drifting down, as one would upon waking up, stretching slowly, gently. It seemed the pause for reflection warned her of a new presence: newcomers, a small group of survivors lost in the calm, probably exhausted from running away from those creatures. Her eyes widened with careful attention, perfectly still with a flawless stance, welcoming them with a smile.

Their frowns turned into grimaces when they saw her. Soon enough they became both each others' victims and attackers.

Jaime expected more than the hot-blooded bodies he came across when he flew into the area. He expected to be making a few more abominations explode in a grotesque manner - not very pleasant for his stomach, but it was better than finding more half-eaten corpses a minute too late.

But there were no monsters in sight. Not the variety he was targeting, at least. Not anything Scarab was watching for.

"Whoa...What the hell's going-?" On...? Looting?

No.

"Oh, God..."

Stomach roiling, Jaime dove down to break up the mess of mindless, raging people. So focused, he ignored Scarab's warning about the single, still-standing figure surveying close by; people were getting hurt and took priority.

"Guys, knock it off! Just!"

Jaime's intervention was not enough to interrupt her dance; she was but a shape in a daze full of grace and darkness against pale skin. The civilians would keep attacking each other until she completely left them behind and they realized the absurdity of their actions, staring at Jaime in loss and some hope.

If he could only get that big dude off of the woman, he could at least wedge in between the majority of the mob and start separating them all. He didn't want anyone to get hurt...

Except he had super strength backing his movements. He was rougher than he needed to be, but it wasn't his fault. That guy hit him for no reason, so he could just take a little bit of his own medicine. And if that lady thought she could swing that umbrella around without consequence, well, she was going to have another thing coming. People were going to walk away with more than just a little scratch if they think it's worth even trying to-

Jaime said a few choice words, finding his arm unable to move, fist raised high overhead, holding the woman by the collar of her jacket. Frozen in place, the rest were still able thrash to their hearts' content. Why couldn't he?

His teeth ground and ground while Scarab held him back.
