FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2ND; fishnets September 2 2011, 22:03:00 UTC
OPEN; fishnets September 2 2011, 22:03:27 UTC
[Zatanna has turned one of the smaller rooms into a large conference room. A long table is set up buffet-style with various food and drink, including alcohol. At the moment, she's the only one in it, looking out a window with a half-empty Mojito in hand. She has a show in a few hours, so why not swing on by and say "hi"? c:]

[Sally feels a bit out of place being one of the few imPorts at the con who's not a magic user, but nevertheless it was...well so far, an experience. she was happy she wound up going though, it was a lot better than staying in the City while some of her close friends were away.

it's only the first day, but she's wearing something nice and just wandering around before finally entering a buffet-style room. she brightens as she sees Zatanna chilling with oh boy an alcoholic beverage in hand.]

I hope the drinks are for everyone, an' not just you magic folk.

[Certainly, there's probably more non-magic users than one thinks, considering the number of nerds here! Zatanna's really not all that concerned about this, however, as the thought of all these people knowing her life story? Doesn't quite add up to comfort for her.

She turns around when she hears the voice and jumps a little (drink in a death-grip, however...).] For everyone invited, yeah. Take as much as you want of... whatever you want. [Her voice is a little slower, richer. Someone's had more than one drink...]

[before Zee could even finish her sentence, Sally's already getting herself a drink. some...fruity, girlish beverage that's bright and colourful and hides the taste of alcohol nicely.

even though Sally can sure as hell handle straight up alcohol, she likes pretending she doesn't. she sidles up next to Zee, unfazed by the fact that her friend had started early.]

Don't mind if I do.

[she flashes Zee a smile before taking a long sip. there's a pause.]

How've you been hon? I haven't really got a chance to catch up with you face-to-face in awhile.

[She likes you for a reason, Sally. Many, in fact! And this? This is one of them. So bad ass.]

Eh, getting better. Everything's easier with time... and with alcohol and friends. [Alcohol before the friends, though.]

Getting better? [she cants her head] Nothin' you wanna talk about with a friend?

[she raises her glass. alcohol always comes first.]

It is, yeah. [Her tone is decidedly pleasant, so that's a good sign! BUT.]

James implied I was a slut. [She takes a swig.] So I punched him. We didn't talk for two weeks. He's here. Expects me to, I don't know, accept whatever half-assed apology he comes up with.

Now why on earth would he do that?

[she pauses, looking down at her drink before taking her own swig....a refined swig, thank-you-very-much.]

Well, if he's making an effort to apologize, it means he does care. Heading up here for a weekend takes a lot of effort than something's that half-assed.

At least, I'd hope so.

He won't admit it, but I think he's pissed that I slept with Ted. [She can't tell if it's because she chose to have that no-strings-attached sort of sex with Ted and didn't even consider him or if it's because it was someone that wasn't him in general. And maybe it is a little self-centered and shallow to assume it's all about her, but... ugh.]

He's been weird in general lately, though. And I know that he... means well, but he still said it. And I have to draw the line somewhere.

Fellas get pissed at stupid stuff like that.

[she's finished with her drink already and pouring herself something stronger. man, and she hasn't even been at the con for more than 24 hours.

and shush it's always about the girl. always.]

What I'm thinkin', is that James has stronger feelings for you than he wants to admit. Guys are funny like that. They try to act like what we do don't bother them much, but then they go along calling us names and regretting it the moment it slips out, y'know?

[listen to Sally. she totally knows what she's talking about.....]

Just don't let it sit an' stew for too long. You're lucky it's not taking him years to come to his senses to apologize.

Mm. I wouldn't have to begin with, you know. All he'd had to do was make it clear he was interested.

[She finishes off the mojito and follows suit (it's after noon, after all).] I never had this problem with John. He was a coward and wouldn't admit to his feeling or anything, but he never got pissed with me. He knew it wasn't his right to, if he didn't uh, well... claim me. [The booze is hitting her finally. A bit of a warm, fuzzy feeling. The kind that comes with misplaced words.] I mean, he was an asshole, but only to the guys I was seeing. Not me. Come to... come to think of it, he started acting like a bigger ass when I told him I was seeing John.

[Sally, you are the best. Just you wait until she's drank a bit more! She'll be all over you...] Yeah, I... I let him come because I've had enough of this shit.

[Sally sips at her drink and listens. she's feeling, well, only a slight tingle but not enough for a buzz yet. which is fine for now, because she does genuinely want to assess what Zee's getting at.

and a drunk voice is an honest voice. she's hung around enough bars with both men she's known, and strangers, to know that much.]

He was jealous hon. Most men start acting like asses when the gal they want is seeing someone else. Your John was just a special case. [just as Hollis was to her, though she never got anywhere with that damn boyscout. but he was the respectable sort, never claiming her as his own like Eddie seemed to have.]

Men don't like it when they see a girl they can't have. It's flatterin' to say the least, but guys don't usually think things through when they have a woman on their mind.

[she runs a thumb over the rim of her glass.]

Just give him the chance to apologize, an' see what goes from there. That's all you can do sometimes, hon.

[Zatanna just... nods. She's listening, but it's hard to say how much of the information is being filtered and how much she's retaining.]

Yeah. I'll... listen. I just don't know how I feel about all of this.

There are times you gotta say "fuck it" and just go with whatever your heart's feeling in that moment.

[she gives her a pointed look.

sally. really shouldn't be giving anyone love/relationship advice tbh.]

It's all jumbled. [Zatanna makes a point to avert her eyes, tilting her head to the side with a bit of a frown.] This sucks.
