[Lily is, in the meantime, busy collecting food. She's been bringing food over to Severus on her visits, even though he really doesn't need her to anymore, because food is, in Lily's mind, the best way to rekindle a relationship. That, and she likes to help and take care of people.]

No, she didn't. I'm just packing up some of the leftovers for Severus.

Oh, Merlin, Lils, you're still -- [He sighs and rolls his eyes a bit.] He's a grown man, he can feed himself, as far as I know. If the grease doesn't drip on his food, who knows.

[The grease comment earns you a look, James.]

Yes, he can feed himself, but he's still settling in. It's just a nice thing to do.

[WHAT, IT'S TRUE.]

He's a Death Eater. He's not a nice person. I thought you knew that.

I'm not saying we're the best of friends, I'm just helping him out a bit until he settles in. He helped me settle into a strange place once, I'm just returning the favor.

You wouldn't do the same thing if it were Bellatrix Lestrange who'd just arrived, would you?

Bellatrix Lestrange never did anything for me, other than "try to put me out of my mudblood misery. "

He would've done the same. We thought Peter was our friend, too.

You don't know that. And Peter...well. Peter is different.

[He is trying very hard to not yell. Tightly:] Not so much. Snape just betrayed your friendship a little earlier than Peter did ours.

When he was younger. If you haven't noticed, he's much older now.

So is bloody Bellatrix Lestrange, and she's worse than she ever was! Who's to say he's changed?

He seems different, all right?

Why does this bother you so much? You don't have to talk to him, or even see him, if you don't want to.

Oh, seems different. That's alright, then, is it?!

Because I don't like it. I don't like you going over there and hanging about with him, I don't trust him. He's a Death Eater.

There are an awful lot of Is in that sentence, James.

And you know very well that if it comes down to it, I can take care of myself.

Yes, well, what does that have to do with anything? I'm letting you know how I feel.

[This is a little annoyed noise.] Yes, I know, you broke my nose enough times to show it.
