[You'd think a promotion would mean keeping saner hours than this, but the unexpectedness of the whole thing and Squall's own workaholic tendencies meant that he'd been pulling longer hours at work since he ended up as Head of Security. Go figure.

And that meant it was a little past midnight and he was out on the street, tired and a little disgruntled and thinking about a lot of things. And an indistinct figure moving in the dark near an abandoned building should not have been his problem, but somehow, even though he told himself he was a mercenary and this wasn't in his current job description, he ended up moving to investigate anyhow.]

[ Peering up at the building, Angel sighed, hands deep in the pit of his pockets. Part of his investigations meant making sure the places he was poking around in weren't being watched by security, seeing as he didn't really want to get taken in by the police.

Turning the corner and dipping down into the alley beside the building, Angel sighed, looking around for an entrance, a broken window, an unlocked door maybe. If he couldn't even get in the place wasn't worth it, though he supposed he could always try the roof. Granted, that meant he'd have to get up there somehow and for the time being, he wasn't sure it was worth that much of an effort. ]

[Squall followed as far as the entrance of the alley, far enough for him to be able to see Angel inspecting the building, not bothering to even try to conceal his own presence. He didn't say anything just yet, though. Instead he stopped at the entrance of the alleyway, crossing his arms over his chest, and waited in silence to see what the guy was going to do.]

[ The thing was, Angel had enough sense left to realize when he was being watched. He might not've had super senses anymore, but he still got that feeling, that nagging at the back of his mind that told him that someone was there with him, to turn around.

So he did.

Stopping to stare at the guy that was staring back at him, Angel didn't respond too dramatically, taking another second before he spoke up. ] Can I help you with something?

( When she had been younger, Donna was all about sunshine. These days, starry nights were more her thing. Which explains why she's lying out on the grass of Central Park at this hour of night, towards the south end where the old buildings just surround the trees. She was alert enough to notice another presence, however; she was also curious enough to act on that notice. And so she gently lifted off into the air and headed towards those older buildings, eyes scanning in the darkness. )

[ Walking along the sidewalk, eyes scanning the darkened horizon, Angel's gaze trailed over the buildings he was walking beside. He didn't really want to stay in an abandoned building if he had his choice, but he was willing to if he got right down to it. Old industrial warehouses weren't as bad as everyone made them out to be, especially if they had a break room somewhere inside.

But Angel had been alive long enough to know when there was someone else hanging around and he furrowed his brow, glancing over his shoulder to make sure he wasn't being followed. ]

( And Donna decides to chose this particular moment to drop down in front of him, a safe distance away. She's dressed as a civilian, but she supposes the flying may have been lacking in subtlety. Ah, well. )

Bad case of insomnia?

[ That was... unexpected. Snapping back around, he stared at her for a few seconds, stopped right where he stood. It wasn't so much that he couldn't come up with a response, he was more trying to figure out how to react to the whole flying thing. ]

Just a night owl. What about you?

ROLL FOR RANDOM ENCOUNTER? purmoncul August 1 2011, 03:06:23 UTC
[There is one particular apparently-abandoned warehouse that is certainly not abandoned. It only has one occupant at the moment, but when that occupant is a massive iron-beaked half-horse-half-bird, one is really all you need.

The smell of some sort of livestock may strike Angel as odd, at first. As he comes in, he will notice that a bunch of old furniture has been piled in a broken, vaguely circular heap in the center of the room. He may also notice the ...they'd almost be reminiscent of owl pellets, if they weren't so big.

He won't see Buckbeak himself, however, until he looks up.]

ajfdks; DID I ROLL THE BEST NUMBER? slipperysoul August 1 2011, 03:48:16 UTC
[ Nudging at one of said owl pellets with the toe of his shoe, Angel could really only look vaguely curious. He wasn't any kind of expert zoologist, but he sure as hell knew a lot about demons.

... Except he'd never really seen any demon like that before. Granted, he didn't really think it was a demon. Just some terrifying looking bird that he was sure if he made any sudden movements, might be inclined to eat his face. Which, in the grand scheme of things, probably wasn't he worst possible thing that he'd ever come up against.

He just wasn't entirely sure what he was supposed to do. Staring up at the bird... horse.. beast-thing, Angel's eyes widened faintly, holding his stance. ]

Kind of wondered why this place smelled like a barn.

I'M GONNA BE HONEST. I CONSULTED THE TABLE IN THE GM MANUAL. THERE'S ONLY ONE THING ON IT. purmoncul August 1 2011, 13:01:48 UTC
[The windows rattle as Buckbeak shrieks, and he wheels sharply, landing between Angel and his nest. He flares is wings out again, just in case Angel forgot that Buckbeak was REALLY BIG, and gives the vampire a grumpy look.]

DAMN RIGHT, THAT MANUAL KNOWS WHAT ITS TALKIN BOUT. slipperysoul August 1 2011, 14:03:01 UTC
[ Yeah, no- He didn't forget about the bigness. And it's unlikely that he'd forget anytime soon. Angel still holds his ground, staring up at the animal probably more nonchalantly than he should, but he's seen scarier things in his time and he's not too worried.. yet. ]

Sorry, didn't mean it like that. Nothing wrong with barns, i've slept in more than my fair share myself. Just not usually what a place like this smells like.

[Seras was out on patrol trying to clear her head. The recent revelation of who was behind M.A.J.E.S.T.Y. had her questioning a lot of things and the best way to answer them seemed to be to get back to doing some proper coppering. So of course when she noticed a dark figure lurking in alleys and creeping around abandoned buildings she was more than happy for the distraction. Adjusting her enough and ensuring her badge was clearly visible Seras walked up to Angel to find out just why he was creeping about.]

Excuse me, but what are you doing?

[ Oh. Crap.

Angel freezes at the sound of the voice, taking a few steps out of the shadows and trying his best to look like he wasn't up to anything even remotely suspicious. Even though it's beyond obvious that he was. What else do people do in dark alleys? ]

Sorry, I was just- Thought I saw something.

[Like she'd never heard that before. Still, with all the disappearances maybe he did see something.]

Well next time find an officer instead alright? There's a lot of dangerous people in places like this.

So what did you think you saw?

Think I can handle my own, but I appreciate the concern.

[ And there was the problem with that excuse: now he had to come up with something. ] No idea, maybe a person? [ He shrugs, arms crossed over his chest, taking a moment to glance up at the nearest fire escape. ] Guess I was wrong.

[ Night brings out plenty of bad guys. Selina isn't one of them these days. In fact, if he follows the sounds of fighting in one of those back alleys of ill repute the City is full of, he might find her in a catsuit and mask, beating the crap out of a group of drug dealers. ]

[ Angel would have been hard pressed not to follow the sounds of fighting, and he picked up his pace as he did so. When he skidded into view though, he wasn't really expecting what he saw. And he couldn't exactly figure out who he was rooting for. If he was rooting for anyone.

Just watching for a few seconds as the drug dealers took as much abuse as they could before giving in, Angel couldn't help but almost be impressed, taking a step back towards the shadows and just waiting for the dust to settle. ]

[ She saw him of course, after the last of the thugs had fallen. Standing at a distance, but she still took a defensive stance. ]

Who the hell are you?
