Curtis was happy to provide a break and a trip to the beach with Tom was a great idea of one. In some board shorts of his own on the towel next to Tom, Curtis was applying some sun screen to himself. He'd brought a cooler with food and another with drinks to their little get away space. A lot of searching around the internet had made finding it possible.
"Weather's a lot nicer right now than I thought it would be."
"Really couldn't have asked for a better day to be out here." Tom replied, exhaling slowly before putting out the cigarette and applying some sunscreen as well. It really was perfect weather for being out on the beach. There weren't many clouds in the sky, the temperature wasn't so hot that it was uncomfortable, and there was a calm breeze blowing in from the ocean.
"How did you find this place, man? It's probably the only section of beach that isn't covered in people, and it's seriously a nice one too. It's beautiful out here."
Curtis flashed a grin and flopped back onto his towel. Arms behind his head, he checked to make sure the coast was clear and created a pair of sunglasses on his face.
"Internet," he replied, rather proud of himself. "Just some searching and chatting and bam, pointed right at this spot by some helpful people."
"Of course," She shrugged and sat back on his towel as well, stretching out a little and closing his eyes, enjoying the sun on him. Maybe it was a feline trait coming from his other side, but lying out with the sun shining on him was just relaxing. It warmed his skin and was even soothing thanks to the breeze, keeping him from getting too hot.
It was still pretty early in the morning, but he was already contemplating grabbing a beer out of the cooler. He didn't move though, content to just sit out and soak up some rays for a bit.
"Remind me to thank the internet later," He grinned. "This is awesome, man. Thanks for doing all this."
"I don't believe it," He laughs as well, stretching out more on his towel, arching his back a little before relaxing again.
"No, really, I do." He shrugged, sitting up a little to look at Curtis. "I needed this. The new job is great and all, but I'm still getting used to things. The paperwork was already starting to get to me."
"I was shocked too but it turns out it's true," Curtis grinned, watching Tom move. After a moment, he blinked. "Man...I hate when I rhyme like that," he shook his head.
"Paperwork is an evil, evil thing," Curtis agreed. "But hey, anytime you want a break...just tell me, y'know. I'll drag you off somewhere nice like this."
"Well, I don't know about you, but I'm ready for a beer. Ten in the morning isn't too early, right?" He hops up off his towel and walks over to the ice chest, grabs a couple of bottles before heading back to sit down next to Curtis, handing him one of the beers.
"Hopefully I won't need it too much and I'll get used to the extra work... It's just balancing all of the new stuff with the old things I still do is taking some time." He takes a sip of the beer. "I'll definitely be taking you up on that. We haven't really left the City that much, huh?"
Curtis laughs, sitting up as Tom went to get drinks. He concentrated as the bottle was handed to him and the labels on both bottles changed to make it look like they were drinking root beer. "No one will give us trouble this way," he remarks.
"I'm sure you'll handle it, man. You can do it," he says. He sips his beer and looks up thoughtfully. "No, we really haven't. I went into orbit once which was boring as hell but haven't gone to a lot of other places..."
"Good idea," He remarked, inspecting the fake label for a moment before taking a long sip of his beer. This was just what he needed, and there was nothing that could be found wrong with good weather, good beer, and good company.
"Thanks... I know I can, I'm just not used to it. Hell, before coming here, I didn't have even half of the responsibilities I do now. The closest I got to holding a job was with the JSA." That wasn't completely true. He knew he could do the paperwork because he had to handle all of his mother's once she died.
"I have lots of them," Curtis remarked. "I just try to space them out so I don't overwhelm everyone with my amazing brain," he laughed. He took a swig of his beer and grinned to the sky.
"Hey, City is full of new and unexpected. I'm not used to have a job at all or eating alone most mornings," he shrugged. "We adjust and kick ass in new ways, y'know?" he was in a great mood.
"Once you get over the fact that the planet looks really damn cool that high up...there is nothing to do up there."
Tom frowned a little, taking another long sip of his beer to hide it. The comment about eating alone most mornings made him feel bad, and he didn't like the idea of one of his best friends being lonely here.
"If you want, you know, you could always just swing by the bar in the mornin- er... early afternoon, if you want to have breakfast together or something. I usually don't wake up until ten, and skip breakfast, but we could make it a thing, if you want."
He laughed a little. "I can't believe that. It seems like floating in orbit would be pretty fun for a long time."
Curtis was visible surprised by the offer. He recovered quickly though, thinking about it. After a few moments he smiled. "That sounds good, Tom. I can stop somewhere and pick up some breakfast and meet you at the bar. We can enjoy it there," he nodded.
"Maybe with someone else but up there with just me and space junk, there wasn't much to do. I mean I could have messed with some of the stuff up there but I would've felt like a jerk if I knocked out everyone's cell phones or something."
"As long as you don't mind eating until later, then it sounds good to me," He replied, taking another sip of his beer before lying down once again. Even though he probably couldn't sleep in like he usually did anymore, he still really wanted to to believe that he could.
"Good, because I'm trying my best to be able to sleep in still. I don't want to be so busy that I can't."
He turned onto his side, facing Curtis. "I think I'll pass," He shrugged a little. "I'm perfectly fine with my paws on solid ground, and you don't seem to confident about it."

"You don't have to thank me, I like spending time with ya, Tom," Curtis grinned, turning his head towards his friend.

"Well, next time, you should take someone along."

"You volunteering?" the blond reached over and nudged Tom before laying down. "It would be dangerous. Make the limits of my range really important."
