a fancy part of town, super late at night/early in the morning! I HOPE THIS IS OKAY. fantasycliche May 26 2011, 03:55:34 UTC
[ There's a well-dressed woman standing outside a newly discovered and very closed-for-the-day jewelry store, staring in through the pulled down iron lattice at the displays, looking decidedly thoughtful. She'd look way more properly placed trying this inside the store, during normal business hours, but you shop when you can.

Oh look, a necklace with a particularly opulent set of diamonds seems to have caught her eye. So she'll just be teleporting on inside and casually leaning over to scoop it up. Shopping is way better after hours. ]

[ John isn't the heroic sort. He's patently the one who survives to fight another day, rather than risk it all to go out in a blaze of glory. When he sees the woman -- because, of course, it would have to be a woman to cross his path so late at night -- he only shakes his head and tries to keep his distance. ]

[ Happy with her find (and a quick snatch for a lovely black-stoned bracelet while she's at it), Onyx blinks outside again. More or less directly into John's path, if safely a few feet ahead. She looks... just a little surprised to see him, and darts a glance back at the store.

YOU'RE NOT GONNA SAY ANYTHING, RIGHT. BRO. ]

[ He totally comes to a near-screeching halt. The surprise doesn't last long, however; with a little grunt, he fixes a rather perturbed look on the would-be super before him. ]

Getting our jollies off a little early, aren't we luv?

[ She's prepared for surprise, maybe an accusation. She'd just begun to check the area for witnesses, in case it turns out wise to make a meal of this guy before he can cause trouble-- but then he talks and all those thought processes derail. In favor of just... staring uncomprehendingly.

what in the world does that even mean. what kind of thick accent -- what. ]

What?

[ She was amateur hour, he was sure. She hadn't accounted for company, let alone an innocent bystander -- good. That meant he was far more likely to get out of this alive. ]

Said it might be a bit early for window shopping, yeah?

[ Oh. ...It's a little easier to get that the second time. And if he's not planning on making this into anything, then that's perfectly fine with her! So she allows a smug little smile and reaches both hands up to fasten the necklace at the back of her neck. ]

It's the best time for it. The crowds are thinner.

Best time for a lot of things.

[ Cryptic, he does it well. ]

You do this often?

It's dependent on mood.

[ She turns, peering at her streetlight-lit reflection in the shop window. possibly preening a little, because how can she not preen in front of a mirror. ]

How does it look?

[ that's definitely a tell me I look amazing tone. ]

Like a million quid.

[ Is that snark? Why yes it is! ]

[ that gets a... really suspicious darting glance. GREAT MORE THINGS SHE DOESN'T KNOW ABOUT. ]

"Quid" being?

That funny little money we from over the pond use.

[ He lights a cigarette, inhales. ]

Not from around here, are ya?

[ "Over the pond." Hadn't Bond said something like that once? She'll have to ask him about "quid". And this guy, meanwhile, gets a curious study. He's sounding awfully familiar, the more she listens to him. ]

Neither are you, I think.

Oph, you caught me red handed.

[ He sticks his hands up in a mock-gesture. ]

From Merry Ol' England, I am.

[ There's not very many other sorts of people that would sound familiar, after all. cocking her head! ]

Have we spoken?

Ent we all, in the grand scheme of things?
