TODAY? BLONDE EDITION TERRA speedofnaked March 22 2011, 01:09:36 UTC
It wasn't a scream of horror, and it could qualify as perfectly mundane, but it probably wasn't the sort of interaction Zelgadis wanted, either. After all, days with Terra rarely turned out the way he wanted.

It was an ordinary set up: Terra, who had been suffering from off-and-on migraines for the past several days, had left her apartment in search of what it was normal people used to deal with this sort of thing. With said headache, she wasn't the most aware of her surroundings, and so in taking one quick turn around a corner found her running into Zelgadis.

Literally, of course. And, of course, while colliding with a statue of a man would do little to knock his balance, Terra was easily knocked back a couple steps with a quiet noise of pain, one hand rising to cradle her forehead. Slamming face-first into brick walls was hardly a headache remedy, after all.

He barely had the time to pipe up and warn her of the incoming collision before...well...collision. His shoulders shrugged up impulsively on impact and hands shot out to grab her if she wobbled backwards...which, of course...was pointless. She stepped away on her own.

Zelgadis grimaced.

"Are...you okay?"

There was no falling over from the collision, thankfully, but at the sound of his voice, her expression shifted quickly; surprise, a small wince around her eyes as migraine's punishment for looking so fast, and once she registered that yes indeed, this was Zelgadis, a small smile brushed the pain aside.

"Yeah, I'm okay," she replied, standing a little straighter as she recovered her balance. "Sorry, I didn't notice you there."

He was immediately guilty, catching the look of pain on her face before her expression changed. Immediately...something else at the smile, gulping.

"Oh," he blurted, not thinking. The recovery came with a dry look, though not rooted in negativity. "That's new."

Terra wasn't exactly sure what to make of a comment like that-whether he was talking about his own appearance (he was) or her previous ability to 'feel' when people with magic were near her (he wasn't; did he even know about that?), she couldn't tell. Critical thinking just made her head hurt worse.

"Huh? I guess..." She shook her head, closing her eyes for a moment. "What are you up to?"

"Nothing." Zelgadis took a step close to the building nearby, shrugging away from the passerby trying to brush past him. It wasn't nearly enough time for him to think up something better than that, so he just went with repetition. "You?"

"I was looking for one of those general stores, for some pain-killers," she started, brushing hair out of her eyes in absent gesture; a steady wince seemed to hang around her eyes. "But I think I got turned around somewhere..."

The mundane mission was a bit of a godsend; Zelgadis just nodded, glancing over his shoulder and across the street to get his bearings, pick out familiar sights...He nodded again, more to himself.

"This way," he said, walking around her and back the way she had come.

That she didn't even have to ask for Zelgadis to come with her was both good and not, she thought as she turned to follow. Good, since she had intended to, if only to keep her from running into anyone else (more figuratively speaking in this case). The not came in wondering what his reasons were for coming along.

But trying to figure out what those might be, if she were to think on it again; Terra's efforts instead put into catching up. Besides, she was grateful either way.

"Thanks" was a quiet utterance as she fell in step beside him.

He was always so much better at doing than saying. A dude thing, maybe, but spending so long more or less on his own or with a crew of the male variety really stunted his experience with manners around ladies. Not to mention the permanent damage that came with being pretty much under the thumb of his world's greatest pain in the ass/savior multiple times over.

Long story short, Zelgadis was at least glad he could be productive in one way, though his brain was turning up a whole lot of nothing on the conversation front. It made his kind-of victory even less.

But hell, at least he was doing something.

The journey was not a terribly long one, with the City as compact as it was in this district, so though it passed in silence, it was not a heavy thing. Sliding doors opened automatically at their approach, a quiet dee-doom ringing from some speaker, trying and failing to sound melodic.

The transition from dreary cloud cover to bright fluorescent sent a new spike of pain between and behind her eyes; for a moment she could do little more than press thumb and forefinger against her brows, hand shielding her eyes from the light. Her free hand took hold of the loose fabric of Zelgadis's upper sleeve, either to keep her own balance or to prevent him from progressing without her.

It took a moment to acknowledge the tug of fabric - well until his arm stopped moving fluidly. The hand stopped him mid-step, half-turning back to look at her, frowning.

"Are you alright?"

"Yeah," she replied, but there was a few seconds of hard blinking before she let her shielding hand drop away. "It's just a headache, but I've had it for a couple days now..." The free hand gestured to the store they were now in. "So..."

The frown got a bit more...frowny. "Does that happen a lot?"

She shook her head and, somehow, managed not to wince. "The last time I had one was..."

There was no point standing in the front entrance, so Terra let go of his sleeve to walk towards where she figured the medicine aisle would be. The layouts of these places didn't vary much. It took a little while of thinking to come up with an answer. "... that time at the beach? You know."

And here, the hundred million boxes of pills.

Any attempt at following her was halted at the mention of that time at the beach. He would've blanched visibly if he could, but color didn't do much draining on his face anymore. It sure as hell could add on - which it did, shortly after his freeze frame.

Sure, there was still reason to be concerned about the here and now, but it was hard to derail that train of thought easily. Still, he willed himself to follow down the aisle, looking a little less than a hundred percent there.

Because he wasn't.
