[ Darkdevil's been in a similar mood. Tonight's patrol has left plenty of criminals in its wake. Yet it's still not enough, he thinks to himself, continuing to hop from rooftop to rooftop.

-- Until he feels a familiar tingle that makes him freeze. ]

[ Spidey is taking a stretch when he sees the shadow crossing from roof to roof above his head. Finally, something to investigate! He scales the wall at a fast crawl-run and bounces up over the edge, to find himself face-to-back with ... ]

Oh. Should've figured it'd be you.

[ Darkdevil turns around, his club raised, adrenaline pumping through his veins. Then the most unimpressed expression crosses his face. ]

You. Wonderful. Sorry, Webhead, but I don't have time to chat. I have work to do.

[ A disgusted snort. ]

[ A frustrated scoff. ]

If you're going to lecture me, you need to do better than that.

Oh, is it finally sinking in? If not, let me reiterate: leave me alone. I don't want anything to do with an annoying, self-righteous arachnid who thinks he knows what's best for me.

[ Stalking closer. ]

Yeah? You haven't exactly been the highlight of my stay, either. I really have no idea why Matt and May put up with your melodramatic claptrap.

[ Getting all up in your face, Peter! Also, doing a great impression of you... which isn't that surprising really. ]

"But we're family! That means we're supposed to hug and share and always be there for each other!" ...Isn't that what you've been saying?

[ Pointedly not budging. ]

What can I say? I'm all out of patience with you. So far as I'm concerned I can just leave you to Ben to deal with --

[ Leaning in a little. ]

Oh, that's right. He left. Guess we're stuck with our poor substitutes in each other, eh?

[ Clenches his club tighter. Flames start flickering out of it. ]

Ben... ?! Don't you dare talk to me about--

No. No! You know what? You're right. You're not my father. You're not even close. So stop acting like you are.

[ And with that, he brings the club down, to emphasize his point. ]

[ Spidey evades it, but barely -- when he comes out of his dodge-and-roll a few yards away, the arm of his suit is singed. ]

Why, you little --

[ He launches himself forward, fist cocked back and aimed straight for Darkdevil's face. ]

[ The blow sent him reeling. Darkdevil staggered to his feet, shocked, but the surprise was quickly giving way to a grim resignation. ]

I should've seen that coming.

[ He launched himself at Spidey, fists aimed his face, hoping that the payback hurt. ]

[ Spidey should have been able to dodge that blow, but angry and gas-muddled, he wasn't prepared for a Devil to be able to move as fast as, well, him. He twisted to the side, but still got clipped soundly on the chin, crying out. But he barely stumbled before coming back with another roundhouse punch. ]

You'll have to do better than that, kid.

[ Darkdevil couldn't help but grin. Despite the circumstances, there was something satisfying about all of this, even as he trembled with adrenaline and gas-fueled rage. And, perhaps, a bit of familiar fear. Forcing himself to forget the pain of the blows, he began advancing on Spidey, pushing himself to match his speed and strength. ]

Is that all you've got, old man?! Come on. I've fought this fight before.
