For Bakura's sake, at least, he hadn't let himself hide away in the same kind of depression that had gripped him in the wake of Keith's death. Someone had to look after Pelor; someone would have to go into the toy store on Monday and try, for whatever good it would do, to keep things afloat. Much as he wanted to, he couldn't crawl under his bed and hide there from all of the emotions running high around Bakura's death and Alastair's rampage.
But by Sunday evening there was nothing left that he could do to keep himself busy. He lay curled up on his bed on top of its oversized comforter, feeling drained and aching inside.

...He needed to stop thinking about food, it was distracting.
Distracting enough that when a very small animal started up on a very big bark, it made him jump and whirl, tail blown huge in alarm.
STUPID DOG! Augh, so annoying... I should just eat you, solve two problems at once!

Which was how he ended up kneeling on the carpet, arms full of quivering dog, staring wide-eyed up at the intruder in blank incomprehension. "--you're...?"

"Here to see that you're safe. ...I'd forgotten that you got a dog."
This face. This face so much.

Things that were not his problem right now: Keiko's kid sidekick.

Luckily, tonight it had taken her by a certain office building. Just in time to spot someone trying to break in. Elevator shaft, so they probably had some idea what they were doing. But were they really going for a B&E in such a bizarrely fluffy getup?
She landed lightly on the roof a few yards away, clearing her throat. "Hi."

Tall, white and fluffy didn't even bother to turn around. One more cut and he was able to pull a person-sized chunk of metal off of the cover.
"Do you have a vested interest in this building, or are you just curious?"

Really, she was one to talk.

...Bakura's death.
But being locked up in her apartment would only make the feelings of exhaustion worse, and she has always found that she actually recharges quicker if she remains outdoors---even more so, now that the Well showed up. So she's standing by the lake, smoking her pipe while staring at her own reflection, which wavers with the water. She feels like a failure, a complete and utter facsimile of her usual self.
She wasn't there when Bakura died. She wasn't there because she was too busy trying to figure out Anyan's sudden change of heart and playing along with the Major's plans.
Because of her own selfish wants.
"...Why did it..." she mutters to herself, "...have to turn out this way...?"

If she is still, and looks carefully, she might see a flash of something silvery through the trees.

...This presence...this presence was similar to that of Gaap, Ronove.
A demon. A very powerful one. But what would one want with her, if they were not contracted to her or allied with her? Curious and a little jarred by the intensity of this presence, Beatrice whirls around, quickly snapping her fingers and summoning forth twelve small stakes of light to surround her in a defensive formation.
She forces her expression to harden, forcing her characteristic smirk in spite of her lingering depression and torment---her weariness, her actual unwillingness to fight. Appearances, appearances, after all.
And when she catches the presence coming from above, and sees that flash of silver---
"A proper lady relishes not the appearance of a Peeping Tom, my dear ( ... )

If she was going to be rude, though.
And of course he doesn't just come out. What does she think he is, some lesser beast? Instead, he pauses in the bushes, dark energy surging into almost-visible crackles of energy, an unnatural rustling through the trees.
"Proper ladies don't go around picking fights. Are you sure you want to delay me on my business?"

'Sup Yoko Kanno Whatevah. Baroona is lying on the roof watching the stars waiting for you. And for his ass to get kicked apparently because we all know what's going to happen.]

"You."
Really, Baroona. The Yoko is tall, muscly, flat-chested and has a deep voice. Do you really need to have this fight?

He takes note of the deep voice and fortunately files this stranger as one of the male variety. Although there is the slight possibility he's wrong (the fuck is with that hair, man). What intrigues him more is the fact that this guy seems to know him. Which is weird seeing as how Baroona has purposefully kept a low profile here.
His neck cramps after a few more minutes and he rolls onto his side before getting up. His movements are slow and fluid, a kind of leisurely place, as if he doesn't recognize the potential danger or, more likely, doesn't care.
He lights his cigarette.]
You know me?

No, nor do I wish to. Tell me, why are you living in this house, again? I'm sure someone told me once, but it's as if your idiocy is leeching the knowledge right out of my head.
