It doesn't especially feel that way right now, when he's cupping the necklace in his hand and looking at Carrie. It wouldn't be totally weird to hug her at this point, but it would also be just as normal not to. ... Fuck it. Jason stoops swiftly and hugs Carrie to him. It has the suddenness of an attack, but he's reasonably sure he can absorb any counterattack she might automatically attempt.
Hugs probably shouldn't feel like grim despair, but that's just his overall mood coloring the moment. Carrie feels much as she did when he carried her before, impossibly small through the thick layers of both their coats.

Jason's warm, even through the coat. She'd noticed it the first time, too. He's warm, he's reassuring, and suddenly showing up at this party where she knows barely half the people without really knowing any of them is worth it.
"You're not coming in, huh." It's a statement more than a question. She turns her head to rest it against his chest so it won't come out too muffled, unwilling as she is to give up the hug quite yet.

"Yeah." He confirms, and his voice isn't a deep bass but one can feel it in his chest anyway. "I need to talk to Bruce." For some reason he can't remember if they've ever had a conversation in which either of them said 'Bruce' at all, but it feels like they haven't.

"Okay." She finally drops her arms and pulls away, offering a warm smile up. "Welcome back. And merry Christmas, for the record." She half-wonders if she should teasingly mention South America (the timing feels off), or ask what he needs Bruce for (even worse idea, something about privacy and respect), but settles on leaving it at that. It's Christmas. Everything else can wait.
