The first order of business, as far as Fakir was concerned, was finding a place to sleep until whatever absurd freak occurrence this was passed. Or just somewhere to keep away from the various weirdos at the party. Thankfully, he'd been able to obtain a key from the front desk. He had been in a hurry, really, and hadn't even glanced at the room number until he'd grabbed Mytho and headed for the stairs.

Room 204 wasn't nearly as spacious as he would have liked, but he could console himself by believing that this would make it less desirable to others.

He locked the door behind them anyway.

Rue did not want to do this. Indeed, if it were her choice, she would sleep in the hallway before coming to the place she'd seen Fakir head in earlier. But she'd searched the hotel top to bottom, and had still not managed to find any sign of Duck, and no sign of a room that was not taken. So here she was, hoping to find her friend with the two people she most did not want to see, a part of her almost wishing she wasn't here, even if it was the last place she could think to look.

Hesitantly, she reached up and knocked on the door, loud enough to wake them both if they were sleeping.

Fakir came to the door a moment later, totally unaccompanied, his face set in a scowl. He stepped up next to Mytho, a half a step nearer to Rue. He had not placed himself between him, but his posture indicated that he was quite ready to do so if he saw reason to.

"What are you doing here?" he asked coolly.

"I can't find Duck," she said, her tone equally cold. "I've looked all over this damned hotel, and I was hoping she was with you two."

Similarly, Fakir had simply assumed that Duck was with either Rue or either one of their 'parents.' He snapped to attention at the Prince's orders and nodded.

"Yes," he said as he turned to go downstairs, the thought to disobey not even entering his mind.

"I've already checked all the rooms," Rue said, a little irritably. She told herself it was only because she was worried. "They're all occupied. And shouldn't one of us stay here in case she comes?"

Fakir paused at the elevator door. He shook his head. "No, I didn't tell her because there was a big rush and she was with the others," he said. He felt compelled to justify his actions to the Prince, felt guilty for creating a situation in which he had to ask that at all.

It was a ridiculous thing to feel, but still.

"And I was separated from her in the rush," Rue said, suddenly feeling the need to justify her not being with the girl she came to the party with. "I looked away for a moment and she'd already gone off somewhere."

Fakir nodded again. "Everyone's settled in at this point, so there shouldn't be any traffic to work through while looking for her," he said. He opened the stairwell door and looked up and down. "Hopefully she's just found a room with someone else."

"Like whom?" Rue asked suddenly. "There's no one else she knows as well, is there?"
