SUMMARY: The Joker coming back was the last straw, a scared and homeless Cassie shows up on Josh's doorstep to beg for a temporary room.

To say Cassie was scared was an understatement. Terrified came closer and while on one hand she knew he probably wouldn't come after her, that he probably didn't care two shakes about a teen-age Watcher, the Joker disturbed her on a level she couldn't describe.
He was like Carver that way. A malignant sore that ate at her no matter how much she tried to ignore it.
And she'd never felt so alone, either. She thought the worst were those few days right after Nick was gone, too fast for her to say good-bye, but no - this took the cake because now not only was she lonely, she felt horribly and terribly exposed. Vunerable. Like a scared little kid.
So, after a full night of pacing and fitful, nightmare-filled sleep, she did the only thing she could think of doing. She packed up her meager belongings in a duffel bag and headed to the one place she thought she might feel safe. She might not like the idiot very much, but he cared in that strange generic and utterly annoying way she knew she could take advantage of and he was living with someone who was, by all accounts, a pretty hard-core bad-ass.
But all she could think of as she banged on Josh's front door was that she missed Nick.
"Open up, Barbarian Boy, I know you're in there."
God, she missed Nick.
