Ever since she had agreed to go on a date on Halloween with Topher, Bennett had been, well, freaking out. This was like a real date. Not just randomly leaving work for ice cream like they did before the brainwashing epidemic. This was a real date-date! And Bennett had never been on one of those before. To make things even worse, Topher wanted to dress up in costumes. Bennett could hardly even remember the last time she had worn a costume! When she was younger, she usually stayed home and just handed out candy for Trick or Treaters, opting to steal candy from the bowl rather than dress up in an obnoxious costume and get candy from complete strangers.
Having gotten all of the work she wanted to get accomplished for the day done, Bennett decided to high-tail it out of the lab (and away from Topher. Was she avoiding him? No, of course not! Okay, maybe a little. But only because he made her nervous.) and to the nearest costume shop. She wanted to make sure she found the perfect costume for the occasion. She only had...more than half the month to prepare? Whatever. Bennett liked to be organized. She liked to be prepared. For instance, if she decided on a costume with a long skirt, she wanted time to practice walking in it to avoid tripping on it. Since that was the very last thing she wanted to do. Trip in front of Topher Brink while they were on their date.
She started to browse the costume selection. For the most part? Bennett was very unimpressed. Almost everything was so skimpy! She was blushing just pulling things off the rack! With a sigh, she took a pirate hat off a rack and put it on. She was going to have to wash her hair with lice shampoo as a precaution later but that was okay. When she looked at herself in the mirror, she actually giggled. It was kind of pathetic how utterly ridiculous she looked.
This was going to take a while.
