The first day there, and Josh was already exhausted. He'd used his ability to control water to start to move back some of the flood areas, but he'd never attempted so much fine, sustained control over such large amounts of water before. It had left him completely drain and by evening, he was collapsed on his cot, scrolling through the messages on his comm and listening to his music.

He kept hoping that he might get some sort of message from Charlie, but at this point he was willing to assume she was never going to talk to him again, which really sucked. If he had the energy at the moment, he would have probably gotten more depressed about that thought, but he was just too tired and already depressed from the several days of no word from her he'd gone through already.

Maybe talking to some people on this trip would prove a nice distraction.

Charlie had spent most of the day either handing out supplies or bouncing back to the states to bring in more supplies. Honestly, she was exhausted. She had every intention of going home to collapse in her own bed, but first...well...she needed to do something. She'd still been avoiding Josh, but with everything they had to do that hadn't been hard.

But honestly...she kind of missed him. And now she was convinced he was going to hate her. She had a big wad of poorly written, vaguely nonsensical letters in her hand as she entered the tent, not saying anything as she walked over and dropping down onto the edge of the cot next to his.

"...Uh. Hi, Josh." for a moment it seemed like she might hand him the wad of papers, but she just held them in her lap.

Josh jerked up in surprise when he saw who sat down across from him. He knew that Charlie was here, but he'd only seen her just as she was either coming or going from some trip or another back to the City. Every time he even looked at her for very long she seemed to bounce off.

For what seemed like forever he'd been waiting to talk to her to try and explain what it was she saw and to apologize to her. Now that she was here though, he was having difficulty finding the words to say.

"Hey," he managed to say.

"So, uhm, I kinda..." Charlie had no idea how to do this. Now that she was here it was taking everything she had not to bounce away. And she still wasn't sure she'd manage it. still, she stayed for the moment at least. She didn't seem to know what to say, but she just kept looking at him, her eyes a little wide and a little sad.

"I read your letter." She finally managed. That seemed like a good place to start, right? "And then I tried...to write you back but they're awful." She crumpled up the wad of papers a little more.

"I'm sorry," he said, the words coming out immediately. Josh knew he looked miserable and maybe it was a bit pathetic, but he had hated the idea of Charlie being so mad at him for this long. He hated worse the idea that she was hurting this long.

"I know what it looked like but I swear it wasn't that. I understand if you're mad at me still I just... I don't want you to think I'd do that to you. You deserve better than that and I'd never- I'd never do that."

Charlie blinked at Josh's sudden outburst. She hadn't really expected that at all. She finally flushed when he stopped, nodding her head in agreement. "I know, I read your letter I said, I believe you." She paused, and then smiled sheepishly.

"I thought you were gonna be all angry at me for yelling at you and stuff..."

Josh took a deep breath to gather himself and shook his head, relieved that she wasn't upset at him anymore. He found it kind of odd that she was worried about him being angry though.

"No, I mean, I know what it looked like and if it was that, you'd have every right to be super pissed at me," he said. "I'm just glad you're talking to me again."

She smiled some. "I was going to days ago but I figured you'd be mad. I mean, everybody said you should be mad cause I mean...I yelled at you on the network and stuff..."

She was very intently learning about the floor, apparently. Cause that's where her eyes were. And she was still crumpling up the letters, the paper crunching loudly in the quiet room.

"I wouldn't have done that if I'd...you know...not been so mad..."

"Well, forget what everyone else said," Josh told her, although she did kind of accuse him of sleeping with Scatty in his post. Thankfully, no one seemed to really believe it.

"We got it all worked out now, right? And, and I still like you..."

"Really?" She honestly doesn't appear to believe him. Charlie isn't sure what to think with all this. On television, after something like this, people weren't even friends anymore.

"You do? 'Cause...I mean, I miss hanging out with you and...stuff."

Josh decided that maybe he was going to have to be a bit more forward in this sort of thing with Charlie if he really wanted to convince her that he really liked her. Getting up off his cot he quickly sat down next to her, praying she didn't bounce away.

"Well, I liked you because you were really awesome," he said, counting off on his fingers. "You're funny, kind, you kick ass and unleash Dark Vengeance, fun and easy to talk to, and you're really cute. Are any of those not true anymore?"
