[McClane, however, was planning to get plastered. He's been checking out more and more from administrative stuff, deferring to Lassiter and Cheney maybe a little more than he should while he dedicated his time to trying to hunt down Kid-Killer Angie and any way to get a bead on the goddamn Joker. And tonight, he's burnt out and sick of thinking about the ugliest shit that humanity has to offer.]

[Whiskey helps.]

[Whiskey does help many things. From a couple seats down the bar, Aaron tips his own glass of the same toward McClane.]

[The drink is raised in return. Simple enough.]

Can I buy you another drink, Chief?

Always. Thanks.

Hey, what's the latest on those warehouse explosions?

[He orders up two whiskeys.]

Mmm, honestly? Between The Major and The Joker, I've been letting that fall to the wayside a bit. I was at the scene of the second bombing, but I didn't find much, aside from the bodies.

Shit. Anything to those sites? Drug-running, weapons, squatters or somethin'?

There were certainly drugs at the location. Whether it was a manufacturing site, storage, or just a den, I can't say for certain. The fire burned most of the drugs, but I could smell it over the smoke.

Well, that's somethin'. Could've been one of the vigilantes, could've been a bullshit gang war.

Fuck. I hate how a stupid clown and a fat Nazi can monopolize our resources...

Personally I doubt it was a gang war, but there are any number of individuals or groups otherwise capable of what occurred, and have the motive to back their actions.

It certainly does complicate matters. Even simple calls, require the consideration you may be walking into something bigger.

Yeah. I'd just as soon assume everything's big until proven otherwise. Sick of getting caught flat-footed.

As am I.

Heh, I used to think vampires were trouble.

I'm not convinced they aren't.

[He has no one to blame but himself for inciting that remark. Still, he does not look impressed.]

Present company excepted, of course.

[He drops his head into his hand, leaning on the bar as he grumbles into his glass.]

Of course.
