It was indeed a pleasant evening, and if the fact that Schrodinger and Jan were loose wasn't constantly on her mind Seras might have enjoyed it more. Still, there was training tonight, and she was eager to get to it. Even if it was just paintball it would feel good to shoot something, she had a lot of aggression she needed to get out. Stupid catboy telling her she was too weak to beat them. She'd prove him wrong.

Shaking her head to clear it, she brought her focus back onto the night's training. It would be her first time training with the new members, and she wanted to make a good impression. After double checking her equipment she smiled, and walked up to Jack. No reason she couldn't show a little initiative right? "What's the scenario going to be, sir?"

"Hostage rescue," he said, smiling. "We're also going to set up something just for Abby and Garrus, and maybe play a few match es just for fun."

"Sounds good, sir!" Already she was planning to win those matches. Nobody had said she couldn't use her third eye here, and it certainly gave her quite the edge in the dark. "Do I get to be on point again?"

For a counterterrorism agent, Jack was surprisingly experienced at holding people hostage instead of the other way around. On his bad days, he'd had to hijack an aircraft and stage a gas station robbery to do what had to be done. So it was with a certain amount of familiarity that he guided Abby into the very center of the fort, a small wooden room with two entrances and a flagpole. In capture-the-flag games, this would be where the prize was kept, and the principle here was much the same.

Behind his mask, Jack forced a smile at Abby as he held his gun on her. "I promise this isn't going to be a regular thing."

Abby offered a tentative, awkward little smile back-- though maybe it looked a bit more like a cringe than a smile. She did have a gun to her head, even if it was only paintball.

"It's, uh-- it's cool." She was going to do her best to make a good impression. Really. Even if she was nervous. "I mean, I've sorta done the hostage thing before-- only for real, and with a lot scarier bad guys."

Meanwhile on the other side of the field in one of the trenches, Seras prepared her team. She was still nervous despite the small pep talk from Sheldon, she was going after Detective Bauer after all, and that was an intimidating prospect, even more so because she still didn't know what she was doing. She'd just have to try, and hope her best was good enough. "Um, alright, so we have a hostage we need to rescue. She's probably going to be in the fort. I was thinking that Garrus could cover me while I move in closer for the assault."

Sniper Duel ctu_savior August 20 2010, 23:58:16 UTC
[For Abby versus Garrus. Being stalked through the forest by a heavily-armed alien commando is the S.T.A.R.S way of saying 'welcome to the team']

Abby wasn't very good at the whole be sneaky thing. She'd always been clumsy by nature, at least on her feet, and even though she tried to be careful, she couldn't help snapping twigs and making other noises as she did her best to navigate the forest quietly. The absence of other sounds besides Mother Nature's made her anxious, and she walked with her shoulders close to her ears and her finger on the trigger of her paintball rifle.

Hhh, man. It would have been so much better to be in the sky instead of on the ground.

Garrus' heavier body put him at a disadvantage, but plenty of training and even more experience creeping across thresher maw territory alongside Shepard almost made up for it. Normally he might feel a little bit... well, bad about stalking the new recruit relentlessly through an eerie forest to try and shoot her in the back, but it was nonlethal practice. And he had stress to work out.

Pausing in his stalking, Garrus picked up a nice, moderately-sized stone and chucked it into a tree a little ways ahead of him, stirring up a couple of small animals by (happy) accident; far enough away to hopefully distract her so he could get within firing range without being seen.

She was a jumpy girl-- and the sound of the startled animals make her shoulders jerk up towards her ears, her head turning sharply towards the noise. She stilled completely, joints locking up for a second. Oh, geez-- just a couple forest critters.

"Abby, you're gonna give yourself a heartattack at seventeen," she muttered to herself, exhaling heavily. If she noticed her opponent on the approach, she didn't show it. The thing was-- Abby was a good shot at the range, and she rarely missed given a target, but she had a little fine tuning to do when it came to operating under pressure.
