follow the lady

WHO: OPEN
WHERE: a busy street
WHEN: morning to mid-afternoon
WARNINGS: it's a scam!!
SUMMARY: Zatanna told him to work on his sleight of hand, so Tim has been practicing. Now it's time to put his skills to the test. By pick-pocketing By playing three card monte.
FORMAT: para to start, anything afterward

In the end he just ganked a cardboard box from the grocery and, feeling particularly silly, put a blue cloth over it. But this was magic; appearances were important (except when they weren't). This time appearances were important. This operation had to look at least a little scrubby — it was traditional and made people feel more confident — but hopefully he wouldn't actually have to run from the police.

To get people to play, he'd brought along a package of candy bars in a cooler. (And a drink, because Tim was that kind of sensible.) He set the cards out face up. He'd been practicing with them, and they were slightly bent in the middle, lengthwise. Jack of spades, queen of hearts, and jack of clubs.

"No, you don't lose anything when you lose," he had to explain multiple times to skeptical passersby. "I'm just practicing. It's not a scam. I mean, it is a scam, but there's no money involved. Um. Bye, then..."

He was not good at advertising, but out of necessity he became better at it as the day wore on.

"Play a game, win a candy bar? It'll only take a minute."
