Sanji tended to walk everywhere he could, especially in this warm season, which meant he shopped far closer to home more often than not. Oh, he still hunted down the farmer's markets and other special places, but not every day. He was on his way back to the MAC with bags of groceries in his arms, mentally planning out today's collective meal. Without Luffy and Usopp to cook for, he had gathered a motley collection of drop-ins to feed instead, and didn't always know how many would be over for lunch. It required thinking ahead, that was for sure.

Riful was on her way to the MAC as well, in fact, with far less altruistic reasoning; she was planning on taking a shower. After all, being on her own was no excuse for being filthy! It put her in a bit of a tough spot, were she to be recognized, but so far she hadn't had to deal with any real problems.

If she was as she ought to be, she would be able to tell whether or not the slightly curious-looking man ahead of her had powers or not, but that had been reduced from an essential part of her being to a luxury--all she could do was assume from the direction he appeared to be heading in. As the two of them neared the building, she paused, then spoke, her voice high and clear. It was a gamble, to be sure, risking the exposure of her identity if he had spoken with her before--but also one she was willing to make.

"Excuse me, sir," she said. "Are you one of the heroes?"

Sanji's head swiveled around at the question. "Huh? Me? Well..." He paused and located the speaker, giving her a long look. He hadn't spoken with this particular girl before, or he would have remembered. He didn't even consider the hero-network, at the moment he was wondering if he had seen her among the homeless who squatted along his route to and from the club.

"...I guess that's what they call it," he answered after that pause. "I'm only sometimes a hero, though."

"Oh," she said. Riful tilted her head to the side, looking at the bags of what she assumed was food with curious hunger. She needed to affect the mannerisms of a child more completely if she wanted to really keep this up, even if that meant using absolutely ridiculous language. "That's pretty cool. So, what are you the rest of the time?"

Fortunately, Sanji was just fooled enough. He thought this girl seemed a little odd, but not in any sort of "run away fast now" sense. "I'm a chef, actually," he replied, noting her gaze directed at the grocery bags. "It's my job, and my pleasure."

It didn't hurt that plenty of Riful's speech was somewhat naturally childish--if not strictly 2010 childish, and oddly formal. "Sorry," she said, her eyes still flickering back to the bags occasionally as she spoke. "It's just that I haven't eaten for a while."

That pinged Sanji's limited moral center. He never let anyone go hungry if he could help them. He blinked in surprise, and then swiftly set down his bags, rummaging through them to find something that was immediately edible. "If you're hungry then let me...aha, here we are." Tangerines. He got them to comfort himself, to remind himself of home and his crew. They were easier to peel and eat than oranges. Sanji offered the girl one, explaining, "Everything else I have needs to be cooked, first. I can bring you more of a meal once I make one, but will this do for now?"

Riful took the tangerine from Sanji, gazing at it with no small amount of wonder. A fruit? It had been so long since she had eaten anything but humans, and there had been nothing like this, even in the Southern lands... but she would figure it out. Still cupping the fruit in her hands, she raised her chin to look back up at the man and nodded, positively beaming at him.

"Thank you so much," she said. It was such a kind thing to do, offering food to a strange girl who he didn't even know! She would have to thank him more properly later, as herself. "Yes, this is fine."

Now, how did she peel this thing? She dug in her fingernails--thankfully, it was rather intuitive.

Sanji nodded at the girl's efforts. "There you go, you've got it. Just watch out for the seeds." He bent to pick up his bags, cradling them in his arms. "I'm on my way to make lunch. If you're still hungry, I'll bring you something more substantial when it's done." He looked her over again, fortunately considering her too young to hit on. "You look like you could use something hearty. Just stick around in this area so I can find you later."

She politely waited until he had gone on inside to eat; Riful had always disliked being watched feeding. Once he was safely out of the picture, however, she fell on it, completely ignoring the seeds as well as any other pedestrians--all that mattered was that she was ravenous.

It was about an hour later that Sanji reappeared outside the MAC, now wearing a black suit-coat over his dress shirt and a pair of sunglasses. He carried with him a packet wrapped in waxed paper. He was on his way to work, but he was still going to fulfill this promise - he would have never forgiven himself otherwise. "Oi, miss!" he called out when he spotted Riful, waving. "I didn't forget. Here you go."

He held out the packet - a rather well-stuffed sandwich on homemade bread, heavy on the meat and vegetables. As a ship's cook, Sanji knew more than a few basics of nutrition, and made the sandwich with things a skinny girl who needed to eat should have the most. He smiled in a most friendly manner as he offered it, hoping she would like it.
