Kiryu turned his comm off and shoved it into the bottom of his bag as soon as the news reports started coming in. He didn't really have a problem with bombs, and he didn't really care either way about the HIVE, but he had a problem with the government using bombs, especially against something in their own country.

And he certainly didn't want to hear or see all of the stupid chatter about how horrible it was and how could they or why didn't they do more earlier, that was exactly what needed to be done.

Fuck them. Fuck all of them.

And Alastair probably already knew, but damn, he was going to keep his mouth shut about this.

Oh, Alastair knew. He actually caught it on the news first, and then checked his comm to make sure Bakura was all right. And promptly demanded a night out on the town to pretend the wider world didn't exist and nothing was wrong. After a while, though, he could be found stretched out on a bed in the hotel room, the TV on mute with the captions on, scrolling the latest news in Spanish across the bottom. At least it was something different besides the local hubbub about the guy who killed the girl in the casino two weeks ago.

Kiryu eventually made his way to Alastair's room to check on him. A night on the town was great, of course, but there'd been something...off. And so soon after all the news reports (which were still everywhere, he supposed the USA didn't bomb things very often).

He knocked a couple times on the door-frame before just walking in anyway. "Alastair? You in here?"

"Hey." Alastair shifted his attention to the doorway, though his face was still serious. "What's up?"

Kiryu glanced around as he walked over and frowned at the television. "So you saw what happened."

[hackeralastair]

"Yeah." Alastair breathed a bit of a sigh - he was still trying to figure out how he felt about it, aside from "bad." It brought up unpleasant memories, but not as many as actually being in the middle of it, a direct victim. "Goddamn government. Talk about overkill."

A sneer formed on Kiryu's face, one without any of his usual humor. Not that any government usually brought out any of that humor... "Governments always overreact. And it always ends up bad."

"Too right." And yet, Alastair couldn't make himself move toward the remote to turn off the news. It was morbidly captivating, and not in the trainwreck sort of way. Instead, he patted the bed next to him, inviting Kiryu to come sit down. "At least it's not...home. It's not our stuff going up in flames, even if I did live in L.A. once. It wasn't this L.A...."

Kiryu glad took the invitation and sat down, scooting over close to him. He glanced at the news again, scowling a little, although he wasn't going to stop Alastair from watching it if he wanted to.

"Yeah..." Kiryu chuckled, smirking bitterly. "I'd've actually tried to go back if home had gotten hit."

Alastair sat up to be closer to Kiryu. "I wouldn't blame you if you did," he said quietly. "Bakura either. There's nothing I could do either way, but...you could have at least kicked some ass. Oh well." He shrugged tiredly. "It's not our fight, we don't have to worry about it. It's pretty much over, anyway."
